Chapter 30 The Murderer

Jessica stared at James in disbelief, tears streaming down her cheeks, yet she laughed. She wiped the tears away with a bitter smile.

"James, I won't apologize. If I do so, it means I did it. Don't think you can force a confession out of me!"

"You're insane."

The hospital corridor, which was supposed to be quiet, was crowded with people, and there were even sounds of cursing. The sound of high heels hitting the floor was strong and urgent.

Pushing through the crowd, Lily immediately saw Jessica being pinned to the ground by two women. She grabbed the women's hair and yanked hard, causing them to let go in pain.

Lily glared at the two women and said fiercely, "I dare you to touch her again."

Helping Jessica up from the ground, Lily's eyes were full of concern. Looking at her swollen face and red eyes, the fierce look she had just moments ago was gone. The visible injuries pained her, and she worried about the ones she couldn't see.

Lily's anger flared up. How could anyone bully her friend like this?

"Lily, I didn't do it. I really didn't. I was just trying to save her. I didn't do it," Jessica explained to her best friend, her eyes red with tears. She had explained countless times, but no one believed her. Everyone was cursing her because of a fragment of a video, making her the murderer. If she had known things would turn out this way, she would still have tried to save the person. But now, the person was dead, and she had no way to prove her innocence.

"Jessica, I know. I believe you," Lily said softly, wiping the tears from Jessica's face. She believed her best friend because she knew her better than anyone.

"Jessica, you did it on purpose. You're jealous that James loves me, and that he protects me. You can't hurt me," Rose shouted as she lunged at Jessica. She knew that Jessica's best friend was a journalist. This made Rose nervous. Even though the video was in her favor, if the truth came out, she would be finished. No, she had to make sure Jessica was blamed for her grandmother's death. As long as she insisted Jessica was the murderer, and James believed her, she would secure her place in the Kelly family.

A sharp slap stopped Rose's hysteria. She clutched her face and fell to her knees, looking as if she had been bullied, which made the onlookers indignant. James didn't immediately help Rose; he just looked at Jessica with a complicated expression.

Lily coldly looked at Rose on the ground and then at James standing not far away.

"James, are you even a man? Are you just going to watch her get bullied like this? James, you're a man with no judgment."

Her foolish best friend, who had met the wrong person, really made her heartache. When she received Jessica's call, she had anticipated how things would unfold. After all, there were many cases of fraud these days, especially when the other party was a homewrecker.
