He sat on the sofa, tall, surrounded by a pile of cigarette butts, clearly smoking heavily.
Rose walked over, crouched in front of him, and choked up, "You didn't sleep well either, did you? You can't bear losing our child, right?"
James didn't respond. It was his child too, and ending its life was tearing him apart. But he wanted Jessica's child, not Rose's.
He handed her two property transfer agreements and two cards.
"Sean handled this overnight," he said calmly. "These villas are in the best spots in Ocean City, and the funds in the cards will keep you comfortable for life."
Rose shook her head. "Do you think I was with you for this? Take them back, I don't want anything."
She stood up, determined.
James sighed. "You deserve this. Take it." If she didn't, he'd feel even guiltier.
Rose looked at him sadly. "Can this bring our child back?"
James was speechless. "I'm sorry, Rose. After today, forget about me."
He grabbed the car keys, ready to take her to the hospital.
James chose Ocean City University Hospital so Jessica could see Rose's medical records and know he had Rose abort the child.
While waiting, Rose clung to James' arm. "James, I'm scared. It must hurt, right?"
James didn't respond, just watched women come out of the operating room, all looking pale.
Then, the nurse called Rose's name.
She stood, walked to the operating room door, and looked back at James, hoping he'd change his mind.
But James looked away, ignoring her pleading eyes.
When Kylie saw Rose again, she was shocked. Last time, Rose was there for a prenatal checkup; now, she was getting an abortion. Kylie was thrilled—it showed Jessica still mattered to James.
Kylie couldn't wait to tell Jessica, feigning a stomachache and asking the supervising doctor, "Can I use the bathroom?"
After getting permission, Kylie rushed to the restroom and called Jessica.
"Jessica, good news," she whispered excitedly. "Mr. Kelly brought that woman for an abortion."
Jessica, doing rounds with her supervisor, was surprised. She hadn't expected James to actually go through with it.
