Chapter 128 Miscarriage (3)

John sighed and looked at her, "Jessica, I can't stop worrying about you! If he doesn't celebrate your birthday, come home, and I'll do it."

"Dad, how about I send you pictures of my birthday this year?" Jessica suggested, excited about James celebrating her birthday.

She wondered, 'How will he plan it?'

Just then, Joan came back, looking exhausted. Seeing Jessica, her face tensed up.

John asked, "Where did you take Pearl? Where is she?"

Joan, startled, quickly covered up, "What? Are you saying Pearl is annoying and can't even go out to find her friends to vent to?"

John, clearly irritated, reminded her, "What friends? She's pregnant and about to get married. It better not be some shady friends; it wouldn't reflect poorly on all of us!"

Joan snorted derisively, "What? Everything's bad when it comes to Pearl. Jessica used to stay out all night before she got married, and you never had a word to say about it!"

"Jessica was either at the Stewart family's place or studying late in the dorms. Of course, I had no reason to worry!" John, trying to avoid a full-blown argument, and said, "Handle it yourself! Don't mess up the engagement we have lined up!"

Joan's face turned even uglier. She quickly lowered her head and walked upstairs cautiously.

"Dad, I'm leaving. I have to go to the lab later." Jessica said goodbye, not wanting to be in the middle of the conflict, and left the Evans family.

As she reached the door, a sobbing voice called out. "Miss Evans."

Mary walked toward Jessica, looking upset.

Jessica smiled, "Mary, it's been a while. I heard you went back to your hometown. How's everything?"

Mary's eyes turned red, "Everything's fine at home. But I don't want to stay here anymore. Mrs. Evans brought me here, but she's been gone for two years, and you're married. I have no reason to stay."

Jessica sensed something was wrong and quickly interjected, "Mary, have you been mistreated by the Evans family? I'm so sorry I haven't been home much since I got married and haven't had a proper chat with you. If there's anything bothering you, please tell me."

Mary couldn't hold back and told her how Pearl had made things difficult for her.

Jessica felt a surge of anger. She clenched her fists, "Pearl treated you like that? That's too arrogant!"

She grabbed Mary's hand, "Come on, I'll take you to my dad."

Mary sighed, "No need. It doesn't matter. Miss Pearl Evans is also Mr. Evans's daughter. But today, I discovered something strange and don't know if I should say it."

"Go ahead," Jessica said.

Mary hesitated before speaking, "This afternoon, after Miss Pearl Evans gave me a hard time, I heard a scream as soon as I went downstairs. I wanted to check, but Mrs. Joan Evans scolded me and ordered me to take all the servants back to our rooms."

Jessica asked, "What happened next?"

Mary continued, "Not long after, a black car came and took them away. When I checked upstairs, there was no blood on the floor, but there was dried blood in the cracks of the stairs. The stairs are cleaned every day. How could there be blood?"
