Chapter 347 Sharing a Bed with James? (1)

Cynthia shot a furious look at Jessica and snapped, "What did you just say to Mr. Howard?"

Jessica met her gaze head-on and replied, "I just told the truth, Ms. Wells. Facts are facts. You know why you didn't see that patient that night. As a mentor, are you planning to dodge the consequences of your mistakes?"

"Shut up!" Cynthia was shaking with anger, her teeth clenched. "You didn't notify me. If I had known that patient had chest pain, I would've ordered an EKG and cardiac enzyme test right away. Jessica, do you think people will believe you? Do you think I'd make such a basic mistake?"

Jessica was just as mad. She held back her anger and said coldly, "Ms. Wells, you're despicable."

With Cynthia's furious eyes on her, Jessica stormed out.

Right after, Cynthia barged into Nathan's office.

As soon as she walked in, she said, "Mr. Howard, don't listen to Jessica's excuses. She's mainly responsible for this mess."

"Her? An intern?" This time, Nathan was genuinely pissed. He wasn't his usual calm self and snapped, "You, a ten-year attending physician, had a patient issue during your shift, and you want to throw an intern under the bus? You might be able to live with that shame, but our cardiothoracic department can't!"

Cynthia was getting anxious and asked, "So what are you saying? Are you trying to pin this on me?"

"I'm not pinning anything on anyone! But whoever's responsible has to own up. Cynthia, you haven't worked with me before, but now let me make it clear: I don't tolerate bad apples!" Nathan's eyes turned cold as he questioned, "Why did you let an intern see the patient first during the night shift? Why didn't you go yourself? Understand this: you're on duty and get the bonus and the salary, not Jessica! Jessica is here to learn, not to do your job."

Cynthia quickly argued, "Jessica was being overconfident. She always wanted to see the patients first and said she'd consult me if she couldn't handle it."

Nathan sternly asked, "Then let me ask you, did Jessica consult you this time?"

Cynthia blurted out, "Of course not."

"Good." Nathan said coldly, "Then let's pull up the hallway surveillance footage from that night and see if Jessica knocked on your duty room door, and how many times she did."

Cynthia panicked and quickly said, "Yes, she did knock on my door, but each time she said she had handled it and the patient had no symptoms, so I didn't worry."

"Liar!" Nathan sneered and said, "In just minutes, you've changed your story several times. Are you insulting my intelligence? Cynthia, you're a teacher, and you've been a doctor for so many years. I didn't expect you couldn't even grasp the concept of 'responsibility'! You even pushed the blame onto your student when something went wrong. Aren't you ashamed?"

Thinking about how Cynthia had dragged Jessica into the conflict in front of the troublesome patient's family today, making Jessica the target of their anger, Nathan's view of Cynthia hit rock bottom.

To keep her job, Cynthia insisted it was Jessica's fault and said righteously, "If I have any responsibility, it's that I trusted Jessica too much and was deceived by her. But ultimately, she was overconfident and said the patient was fine, so I let my guard down."
