Chapter 346 Wrongly Accused (4)
Jessica snapped back to reality, shaking her head, but her eyes were already red.
Nathan handed her a glass of water. "Here, drink this and calm down for a bit. Then tell me what happened."
Jessica took the water, looking at him uncertainly. "Will you believe me?"
Nathan nodded. "If you don't tell me, how can I believe you and help?"
Jessica finally let it out. "Every time I work with Ms. Wells, I get super anxious. She makes me handle everything alone and won't let me call her. I'm new; how am I supposed to handle patients? When I do call her, she gets so impatient. That night, I woke her up and knocked on her door three times. She never opened it and said she'd check on the patient later."
Nathan looked shocked. "Is it always like this with her?"
Jessica sighed. "If I call her too much at night, she gives me a ton of tasks the next day, making it impossible to finish my shift. She's targeting me."
Nathan felt his anger rising.
Just then, there was a knock on his office door.
Cynthia's voice came from outside. "Mr. Howard, are you there? I need to report something!"
Nathan snapped, "Wait there!"
Cynthia stood outside, anxiously waiting.
Inside, Jessica continued. "Professor Howard, you have to believe me. I'm not lying."
Nathan nodded. "I get it. Don't come to work for the next few days; rest at home."
Jessica was stunned. "Are you asking me to leave?"
Nathan chuckled at her naivety. "No, no. I mean, the patient's family might cause trouble in the next few days. Stay home to avoid it. Once things settle down, you can come back."
Jessica looked down, feeling sad. "Can I really come back? I feel like I've caused a huge problem."
Nathan comforted her. "As doctors, we'll face countless disputes. Are you scared already? As long as we do our job well and have a clear conscience, we don't need to fear any slander."
Jessica felt inspired. "Thank you, Professor Howard. I understand now."
"Good. Now go home and get some rest. Don't let today bother you. There will be more incidents like this. You need to be fearless, okay?"
Jessica nodded, feeling much better.
As she left Nathan's office, she ran into Cynthia waiting at the door.
"It's you?" Cynthia was surprised to see Jessica. He actually kept her waiting for an intern like Jessica.
Thinking about the night shift incident, Cynthia suddenly felt a bit guilty.
