Chapter 267 You Have the Right to Be Jealous

Jessica snuggled up in his arms, gripping his shirt like her life depended on it. "I'm kinda beat tonight... Can you just, like, hold me?"

"Sure thing," James said, giving her a soft kiss on the nose. "I won't touch you."

Jessica shot him a confused look. Last night, he had been all rough and wild, and now he was acting like Mr. Nice Guy? What was up with that?

Her heart did a little flip, and she couldn't help but soften her gaze. But then, a voice in her head screamed, 'Jessica, don't fall for it again. Are you really gonna be that weak chick, putting up with the side chick and the love child?'

James laid her down on the bed, telling her to get some sleep, then headed to the bathroom to clean up.

Jessica tossed and turned, feeling all kinds of restless. How did he screw up by knocking up Rose, and yet she was the one feeling guilty?

She kind of regretted giving James' Facebook to Cynthia. She also felt bad about using James' feelings for her to get back at Rose. Now, she was stuck, having to keep him happy. If he ever found out about her games, she knew he'd make her pay.

Lost in her thoughts, she heard the water stop. Jessica quickly shut her eyes, pretending to be asleep, hoping to dodge any drama—or worse, getting pulled into something more intimate.

James came out, moving quietly, and slipped into bed.

Jessica felt his strong arm wrap around her, her back pressed against his chest. She could even feel his heartbeat.

James whispered in her ear, "Jessica, you've got every right to be jealous, and I know you've been through hell. But please, don't push me away anymore, okay?"

Jessica's heart pounded, tears threatening to spill.

Rose thought she could expose Jessica to James and get her kicked out. But things had been calm lately. Sean hadn't shown up, and James hadn't mentioned shipping her off again.

The next morning, Rose, determined to make her mark, decided to take advantage of the calm. She needed to show how considerate she was compared to Jessica. So, she showed up early at Kelly Corporation with a carefully prepared breakfast.

James hadn't arrived yet, so a bunch of secretaries swarmed around her, practically drooling with flattery. Then, James' sharp voice cut through the noise. "Doesn't anyone need to work around here?"

The office went dead silent.

James walked up to the most active secretary and said, "You don't need to come in tomorrow. Go settle your account with finance."

His words scared the others into silence, and they quickly got back to work.

Rose felt the heat of embarrassment creeping up. Clearly, James was out to humiliate her. But she kept her smile, a fake one plastered on her face. "James, I brought you breakfast."

"Come with me," he said, his face dark, walking briskly to his office. Rose followed, her spirits crushed.

He stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, his back radiating coldness and indifference.
