Chapter 67 I Can't Stand His Fake Concern

Jessica thought back to that party where he made her life hell. She clenched her teeth. "I can't stand his fake concern."

Olivia, clueless about the backstory, tried to help. "Mrs. Kelly, guys like it when girls play a little coy. If you soften up a bit, Mr. Kelly might like you more."

Jessica forced a bitter smile. "Olivia, you've seen everything these past two years. Haven't I been humble enough in front of him?"

Olivia sighed. "I saw your struggles, but Mr. Kelly didn't notice you back then. Now, he seems to treat you differently. If you soften up, maybe things will get better."

Jessica shook her head. "It won't. There's a barrier between us, you don't understand."

That barrier was 'Rose.' The woman he always wanted to marry was Rose.

Olivia knew her place and decided not to push further. She sighed and quietly left the room.

Not long after, Jessica's phone rang. It was Jack. She saw over a dozen missed calls from him.

She took a deep breath and answered.

Jack's anxious voice came through. "Jessica, where are you? I heard you didn't go back to class after the award ceremony. I'm waiting for you at the school gate."

"I'm sorry, I'm out," Jessica said apologetically. "I should've told you."

Jack wasn't mad. "Where are you now? I'll come get you."

Jessica hesitated, thinking about whether to mention she was with James, when suddenly her phone was snatched away.

James stood in front of her, looking stern, and put the phone to his ear.

Jack was still on the line. "Are you alone? It's late. If you don't go home, Grandpa will worry."

"She's already home," James said coldly. "Have you finished all your work? And now you have time to pick up my wife?"

Jack was shocked to hear James's voice. He paused and then retorted, "That's Grandpa's order! You haven't even dealt with the woman outside, so what right do you have to manage me? Did I do wrong taking care of your wife?"

"My affairs are none of your business. And my wife is not someone you can touch!" James warned before hanging up.

He tossed the phone aside and glared at Jessica.

Furious, Jessica grabbed the phone back, wanting to call Jack and apologize. "James, are you crazy? Who gives you the right to answer my call?"

"Because I'm your husband!" James snapped, then suddenly smashed the phone against the wall, shattering it.

She was terrified, staring at him in shock.

James grabbed her face, forcing her to look at him. He spoke slowly, his tone dark and menacing. "Since when did you get so close to Jack? Did you buy those birth control pills for him?"

Whenever he brought that up, it felt like he was ripping open an old wound, making it hard for Jessica to breathe.

She coldly replied, "James, your mind is filthy! How dare you suspect me and Jack."

"Isn't it worth suspecting? Why does Linda always know so much about us? Why does Jack pick you up and follow you around every day?"

James's grip tightened, making her jaw ache.
