Chapter 158 The Hidden Truth About Rose is Discovered (1)
Rose saw Lily and immediately clung to James, pretending to be scared. "Why is it you?"
Lily crossed her arms, smirking. "Why not? If a mistress like you can come and go, why can't I?"
James's face darkened. "Get out!" he snapped.
Lily snorted. "You two should leave! If you don't mind the disgrace, let's air it all out. You have a wife at home but flaunt your mistress. Who should really go?"
James glared at her. "Don't push me, or your dad's pharmaceutical company might have problems tomorrow!"
Just as Lily was about to lose it, Jessica walked over, calm but strong.
"Lily, stop," Jessica said firmly, placing a hand on Lily's arm. Rose smirked from James's arms, clearly provoking.
When James saw Jessica, his anger softened, even showing a hint of guilt.
Jessica looked disappointed and helpless. She suppressed her sadness and said flatly, "Don't make things hard for my friend. You eat your meal, we'll eat ours, and do not interfere with each other."
She wouldn't leave with Lily because they had done nothing wrong. Even if she had to watch James and Rose being affectionate, she wouldn't budge.
Jessica thought, 'Only by staying can I completely give up on him!'
Rose, trying to seem gracious, suggested, "How about Miss Evans and Miss Stewart join us? We can reconcile."
Before James could respond, Jessica's calm voice cut in, "No need, Miss Morris. I have a sensitive stomach and get nauseous easily."
She turned to Lily, gently pulling her hand. "Let's go make a reservation."
Rose's face twisted with anger as she glared at Jessica, then looked at James for support.
"James," Rose said, feigning hurt. "Miss Evans's words are really hurtful!"
James glanced at Rose briefly but quickly looked back at Jessica, who was already walking away. Rose seemed invisible, just an annoyance.
"In that case," James said brusquely, "let's go to another restaurant to avoid more unpleasant remarks."
He walked out, stern and expressionless. Rose followed, anxious. "I've wanted to come here for a long time, and you booked such a good spot. Can't we stay? Do you think I'm a mistress and need to avoid Miss Evans?"
James replied coldly, "You're overthinking. Today is our anniversary, and I want no unpleasantness."
Rose had no choice but to follow James to another restaurant.
During the meal, James handed her a gift in a blue velvet box.
Rose's eyes lit up with hope. She took it happily, but as soon as she opened it, her heart sank, and disappointment clouded her eyes.
