Chapter 229 Men Lie All the Time
Kylie was totally overwhelmed by James and just nodded, "Yeah, we agreed to have lunch."
James coldly warned, "What you saw and heard today, keep it to yourself. Not even Jessica can protect you if you spill, got it?"
Kylie, sensing the threat, nodded quickly.
Feeling it was unfair to Jessica, she gathered her courage, "Mr. Kelly, how long are you going to keep this from Jessica? She really likes you."
James didn't think much of Kylie, especially after she hurt Jessica before. But he was surprised she spoke up for Jessica today.
James rarely explained himself, "I just haven't found the right time to tell her. I don't want her hearing it from someone else."
Kylie sighed, "I used to think you really liked Jessica because of how good you were to her."
James was blunt, "I do like her."
But he warned again, "Don't say anything to Jessica. You know her temper. If something happens, you can't handle it."
Under pressure, Kylie had no choice but to agree. She nodded and reluctantly said, "I understand."
At the hospital cafeteria, Jessica saw Kylie and waved her over.
Jessica teased, "Why are you so late? Didn't you say you were just getting off work?"
Kylie, feeling guilty, said, "Yeah, this hospital is huge. I got lost and took a while to find the cafeteria."
Jessica pulled her along, "Let's get some food. I'm starving."
While eating, Kylie kept thinking about Rose's smug face. Seeing Jessica happily eating, she wanted to say something but held back.
She felt bad for Jessica but couldn't risk it. James could easily kick her out of the lab and stop her internship.
Jessica asked, "Kylie, why aren't you eating? The food here is famous. Eat up!"
Kylie took a few bites and suddenly said, "Didn't Mr. Kelly have a woman outside before? What's the deal now?"
Jessica smiled, "He's back with the family now. He cleared things up with Rose, and she hasn't come around."
Kylie hinted, "I've heard that men lie all the time. Be careful, don't let them reignite an old flame."
Jessica was a bit surprised but shook her head, "No, I trust James. If he said it's over, it is."
Kylie was secretly angry but tried not to show it.
Jessica noticed something, "Kylie, why are you acting so weird today? Did your first day of internship not go well?"
"No, no, I'm fine," Fearing Jessica's keen observation, Kylie quickly changed the subject, "By the way, how's your scarf coming along?"
