"I'm just waiting for their reply now."
Lily gave a thumbs up. "I knew it! You're always on top of things."
Just then, an email notification popped up.
Jessica quickly walked over to the computer and opened the email.
After reading it, she went silent.
Seeing her staring at the screen for over ten minutes, Lily walked over.
When she saw the email, she exclaimed, "Wow, the hospital's not dumb at all. They agreed to your terms, but they want you to be a visiting professor and teach their students for a year. The pay looks pretty good too!"
Another colleague overheard and chimed in, "Does Susan even need the money? With her reputation, do you know how many patients and revenue she'll bring to their hospital in a year?"
As they were talking, Nathan walked in from outside.
Jessica usually got along well with her lab colleagues and junior doctors, but Nathan was different. He had an air of authority about him.
As soon as he entered the lab, the chatter stopped immediately.
But Nathan had already heard most of their conversation.
He walked over to Jessica and handed her a cup of tea he had made himself. "Cordelia and Colt wanted this. The stuff they sell outside isn't healthy, so I made it myself. I brought you a cup too. Try it."
Jessica smiled helplessly. "You're going to spoil them."
"Kids, as long as they have a good nature, won't be spoiled," Nathan said nonchalantly. Colt and Cordelia were so adorably chubby that it was hard to deny them anything.
Then his eyes fell on the computer screen, and his expression changed.
It was an invitation from Ocean City University.
He had made her leave Ocean City University and come to SyElysiaanor to teach, just to get her away from her past.
He had even faked Jessica's resume to make it look like she had been educated abroad.
But now, Ocean City University had sent her an invitation.
"What's wrong?" Jessica asked, puzzled. "Do you know this school?"
Nathan quickly masked his panic and replied, "Yeah, I've heard of it."
Jessica explained, "This school has a lot of patients, which is great for my research."
"You!"
Nathan looked at her seriously. "You want to go to Ocean City Hospital?"
Jessica sighed in frustration. "I haven't decided yet. They agreed to let me do my research, but I have to work there as a visiting expert for a year. But what about Cordelia and Colt? If I take them with me, I'm afraid I won't be able to take care of them once I get busy with work."
The thought of her going back to Ocean City filled Nathan with unprecedented anxiety.
He was afraid she'd get suspicious if he was too forceful in stopping her.
But he was genuinely scared. Scared she'd remember everything if she went back.
And even more, scared she'd meet that person again.
