"You think you are? The affairs of the Evans family are none of your business!"
Louisa, exasperated, said, "Ever since you came back that day, I don't know what you said to your dad, but he's been preoccupied ever since. I've always said, you're a jinx and shouldn't have come back to the Evans family. You should have stayed as far away as possible!"
Nathan was utterly shocked.
He said incredulously, "Jessica is your biological granddaughter! How can you, as her grandmother, say such vicious things?"
Louisa decided to let out everything she had been holding in for years.
She angrily said, "What biological granddaughter? If it weren't for John's kindness in adopting her back then, who knows where she'd be begging for food now!"
Jessica's eyes widened, and she suddenly grabbed Louisa's arm, demanding, "What did you just say? What does that mean?"
Louisa harshly shook her off and said, "It means you're an orphan! You have no relation to the Evans family! If it weren't for bringing you, a jinx, into our home back then, the Evans family might not have ended up like this!"
With that, Louisa, supported by a servant, left without looking back.
Jessica, having suffered such a double blow in one day, could barely stand.
Fortunately, Nathan caught her in time and said, "Jessica, people can say anything when they're extremely angry. Your grandmother's words may not be true. Right now, we need to handle your father's funeral, understand?"
Jessica nodded and said firmly, "Yes, she must be lying to me! If I weren't Dad's biological daughter, why would he love me so much? He always treated me better than Pearl."
Nathan said, "Yes, don't take your grandmother's words to heart."
