Chapter 140 Jessica Has Been Wronged

Gerald was shocked, and Jack stared at Jessica in disbelief. How could she do this?

Before Gerald could say anything, Jack jumped in, "Did you actually see Jessica push Pearl? She's not like that!"

Joan, remembering what Pearl had told her, shot back, "How do you know she's not? What gives you the right to defend her? Pearl has seen you and Jessica acting close, but she kept quiet to keep the peace. Do you want me to spill the beans about you and Jessica? Did you tell her to push Pearl? Was this a scheme the two of you concocted together?"

Jack's face twisted as he snapped, "That's ridiculous!"

Gerald's expression darkened. Was Joan suggesting the Kelly family had no morals?

Jack, worried about what Gerald might think, quickly said, "Grandpa, don't listen to her. There's nothing between me and Jessica!"

"Enough!" Gerald barked, then turned to Jessica and asked sternly, "Jessica, what do you have to say?"

Jessica finally looked up, tears in her eyes, and said, "Mr. Gerald Kelly, I didn't push her. Please believe me."

No one believed her; everyone thought she had pushed Pearl down the stairs, and she couldn't defend herself.

Gerald thought for a moment, sighed, and said to Louisa, "Mrs. Louisa Evans, we're deeply grieved by the loss of Pearl's baby. But since Pearl's still in surgery, let's wait until she wakes up to get her side of the story. Jessica's been with us for two years, and from what I know, she doesn't seem capable of such an act."

Louisa, clearly annoyed, replied, "Mr. Gerald Kelly, it's not that we don't trust you, but you truly don't know Jessica like I do. I've watched her grow up, and I've seen her true colors—how malicious she can be! She's bullied Pearl since they were kids. It's no surprise she'd do something so cruel now!"

Jessica's eyes widened as she lifted her head to meet Louisa's gaze.

The shock and deep sorrow in her eyes were unmistakable.

That was her grandma!

She knew Louisa didn't like her because of her mom, but she didn't expect Louisa to slander her like this.

Jessica felt a chill run down her spine.

Gerald wanted to defend Jessica or help her out.

But Jessica was an Evans.

With this mess between the Evans sisters, he couldn't interfere.

Louisa seized the moment, saying, "No matter what, this is a family matter of the Evans family. As an elder, I should handle it."

She snapped, "Jessica, come with me! Even if Pearl wakes up, she probably won't want to see you!"

Jessica stood her ground, not shying away or refusing.

She knew that since the issue had arisen, it needed to be resolved.

She said to Gerald quietly, "Mr. Kelly, I'm going back. Don't worry about me; the truth will come out."

She forced a smile, not wanting Gerald to worry. Pearl's child was his only great-grandchild. He must be heartbroken.
