Chapter 365 Why Not Just Be with Professor Howard (3)
Furious, she sneered, "Jessica, maybe others don't know who you really are, but I do! You think cozying up to Professor Howard will make you untouchable in the department? Don't kid yourself!"
"Ms. Wells, is this really the kind of thing a teacher should be saying?" Jessica shot back with disdain. "Maybe you should spend your time improving your own skills. Next time, there won't be an intern to take the fall for you!"
Cynthia glared at Jessica's retreating back, seething with hatred. 'That damn girl, how dare she mock me after Nathan revoked my right to mentor interns,' she thought.
Cynthia stormed towards Nathan's office.
Nathan looked up, clearly annoyed. "What is it?"
Cynthia, dripping with sarcasm, said, "Mr. Howard, Jessica just claimed you're going to personally mentor her from now on? Isn't it beneath you, a distinguished professor, to mentor an intern who caused a major medical accident?"
Nathan's expression hardened. "Until you acknowledge your mistakes, I'll be assigning our interns to other doctors. A teacher who lets an intern take the blame isn't fit to mentor! As for Jessica, she's a promising doctor, and I won't let you ruin her!"
Cynthia, already at odds with Nathan, didn't care if things got worse. If she was going down, she wouldn't let Jessica have it easy either.
She sneered, "Mr. Howard, you must've gone to great lengths to keep Jessica around, huh? Do you really think she's worth it? You'll regret it once you know her true nature."
"What are you implying?" Nathan asked, confused.
Cynthia spoke slowly, "Jessica's been kept by someone for a long time! She's morally corrupt, just good at pretending. Now, she's targeting you, trying to seduce you!"
Nathan was shocked but quickly dismissed Cynthia's claims.
"Shut up! Do you realize what you're saying? Even if you have issues with Jessica, attacking her character only reflects poorly on you!"
Cynthia, desperate, insisted, "I'm not lying! Her sister told me she's been kept by a wealthy businessman, James Kelly. Do you know James?"
Nathan's frown deepened. He'd been abroad for years and wasn't familiar with many people in Ocean City, but he'd heard of the Kelly family.
'Could James be from the Kelly family? Could Jessica really be kept by him?' he wondered.
Listening to Cynthia's detailed account, Nathan felt uncertain. He couldn't believe Jessica was that kind of person.
Pointing to the door, Nathan coldly ordered, "Get out! You have no evidence. If I find out you're spreading these rumors, I'll make sure you can't stay in our department. Try me!"
Cynthia left Nathan's office, humiliated. She felt her future was bleak.
