Chapter 178 This Marriage is Definitely Over! (2)

Maybe she didn't explain it well enough?

James seemed to read her mind, smirking. "Jessica, you'll always come back."

His voice was cold but disturbingly confident.

Lily watched him leave, fuming. "That jerk James," she muttered to Jessica. "He thinks you're too soft to actually divorce him!"

Jessica's mind raced through weeks of emotional chaos, her mood swinging with his whims. It was maddening how he controlled her every joy and sorrow, like he had invisible strings on her heart.

She made an unwavering decision. She couldn't keep living like this, sleepless nights and anxious days ruled by James's moods. She wanted a life free of fear, where she didn't have to seek his approval or dread his next emotional ambush.

Taking a deep breath, she looked at Lily with resolve. "You said last night you found Michael to help with the lawsuit. Is that true? Given his good relationship with James, how could he help me?"

Lily knew getting Michael's help would be tough but understood what he wanted.

She pretended to be relaxed. "No matter how close he is to James, he's still a lawyer and needs to make money! Don't worry, as long as the price is right, there won't be any problems."

Jessica was skeptical. "Is it that easy? You didn't agree to any of his conditions, did you? Didn't you say he tried to take advantage of you last time?"

A strange look crossed Lily's face, but she quickly composed herself. "Don't overthink it. Do you think I'm someone who can be easily taken advantage of? Last time, he made that request, and I didn't agree, did I?"

Jessica frowned with concern. "I'm just afraid you'll suffer because of me."

Lily squeezed her hand. "Trust me, I won't. The most important thing is you've decided to leave him. I'll be with you always. You won't face this alone."

Seeing Jessica bullied by James last night had pushed Lily over the edge. She vowed to help Jessica escape this misery. She thought, 'After all, isn't that the essence of friends? When one's in trouble, you do everything you can to help!'

That evening, following Michael's instructions, Lily went to Prestige Law Firm after work.

Even after hours, many were still working overtime.

The secretary, Lisa, led Lily to Michael's office.

Looking at the gold-plated nameplate, Lily's suppressed nervousness resurfaced.

Lisa knocked. "Mr. Watson, your appointment is here."

"Come in," Michael's cold, low voice replied.

Lisa led Lily in. "Miss Stewart, would you like tea or coffee?"

"She won't have anything. Lisa, you can leave," Michael decided for Lily, dismissing Lisa.

As Lisa left, she glanced back curiously.

Lily had fair skin, a beautiful face, and long legs, dressed elegantly. Lisa initially thought Lily was a big client.

But Michael's attitude suggested indifference, not even basic respect. She definitely wasn't a client. So, what was their relationship?

Lisa closed the door gently, still speculating.
