Chapter 224 He Is Just Moody
Jessica quickly said, "That was close. You really dodged a bullet!"
At noon, Olivia whipped up a fantastic lunch. It was Kylie's first time eating there, and sitting with James made her feel awkward and nervous.
Even though Jessica encouraged her to eat more and not be shy, Kylie still felt uneasy.
To break the ice, Jessica started a conversation. "By the way, our hospital internship starts next Monday. Kylie, which department are you starting in?"
Kylie replied, "Gynecology. Honestly, I'm not that into it."
Jessica smiled, "I'm starting in cardiothoracic surgery."
James, half-listening, chimed in, "Hospitals have lots of bacteria; make sure to wash your hands often."
"Don't worry," Jessica said cheerfully. "The first lesson in surgery is all about handwashing and sterile techniques."
Suddenly, Kylie remembered something. "Oh right, cardiothoracic surgery! Isn't Professor Howard in that department? Jessica, this could be your chance! If you get in good with him now, it'll help when you apply for his grad program."
James frowned and stared at Jessica.
"Professor Howard's been doing research abroad," Jessica quickly said. "He might not even come back." But James still looked upset.
Putting down his knife and fork, James said coldly, "I'm done. You all take your time."
Kylie watched him leave, confused. She leaned over and whispered, "Jessica, why did Mr. Kelly get upset? Did I say something wrong?"
Jessica knew it was just James being possessive. "It's not you," she said lightly. "He's just moody."
Though Jessica tried to brush it off, she knew James was jealous. After Kylie left, she took a plate of fresh snacks from Olivia and headed to the study.
James was working, eyes glued to the computer, lips forming a thin line, fingers flying over the keyboard.
Jessica stared at him. She mused, 'A man is most handsome when he is working seriously.'
And James? He was always handsome, leaving her speechless.
Sensing her, James put down his work and looked at her coolly. "What's up?" he asked.
Jessica quickly placed the snacks in front of him, her tone lighter. "I noticed you didn't eat much, so I brought you something," she said, a hint of flattery in her voice.
James glanced at the food, then back at her with his intense eyes. "Besides bringing me food, is there anything else you want to say?"
