Chapter 149 Avenging Jessica (1)
Gerald saw right through Joan and Pearl. Thankfully, the kid was gone, and they got their payout.
Best to steer clear of folks like them.
So, he gave a few polite reminders and got ready to leave.
Jack and Gerald had already left the ward, leaving James behind.
Pearl, looking uneasy, asked, "Mr. James Kelly, is there something else?"
James walked up to her and asked, "Are you sure Jessica pushed you?"
Pearl felt guilty and avoided his eyes.
Joan jumped in, "I saw it myself. Do you think Pearl wanted to lose the baby and fell on purpose?"
James smirked, "Why not? Make sure your story holds up."
His calm tone made Pearl and Joan sweat.
Meanwhile, Jessica sat alone on the balcony, thinking about recent events.
She felt there was a connection but had no solid proof.
Just then, Olivia came over and said, "Mrs. Kelly, someone at the door says he's your father."
"My dad?" Jessica quickly got up and saw John on the surveillance screen.
She guessed why he was here. But John was the only one in the Evans family who treated her like family.
It was his first visit here; she had to see him.
Jessica welcomed John in.
"Jessica, I hope my sudden arrival isn't too intrusive. Is James here?" John asked, nervously peeking inside.
Seeing John's tired face and graying hair, Jessica felt a pang of sadness.
She shook her head, "He's not here. Come in."
John relaxed, walked into the living room, and sat on the sofa.
"Dad, do you still drink black tea? I'll make some." Jessica offered, but John stopped her.
John said seriously, "Just sit down. We need to talk."
"Okay, go ahead." Jessica sat down, waiting.
John asked, "Was it James's idea or yours to put your grandma in the detention center?"
Jessica knew he was here about Louisa.
She explained how Louisa had locked her up without food or water, and she almost fainted from heatstroke.
Jessica said, "If James hadn't come in time, I'd probably be in the hospital now."
John hesitated but asked, "Be honest, did you have anything to do with Pearl's miscarriage?"
Jessica looked at him in disbelief, "Dad? You think I pushed Pearl too?"
John looked conflicted, "Pearl's done some bad things, but she wouldn't harm her own child. Jessica, did you really not push her?"
