Chapter 132 Car Accident (3)

Jessica gave her a sharp look.

Joan, startled, quickly looked away and muttered, "Fine, I won't bother you. You always find me annoying now!"

With that, she then rushed upstairs.

Jessica, more curious, asked John, "Dad, when you got the call about Mary's accident, was there a servant with you?"

John thought for a moment. "No, I got the call at the office and went straight to the hospital."

Jessica frowned and retorted, "Isn't that odd? How did the servants at home know? And Joan wasn't with you today, so how did she find out?"

Meanwhile, Joan called Pearl and whispered, "Pearl, you need to get discharged tomorrow. Mary had an accident at the hospital entrance, and I slipped up and said something wrong. That damn Jessica's getting suspicious of us."

Suddenly, the door opened, and Joan quickly hung up.

John walked in, looking stern. "Who were you calling? How did you know about Mary's accident? Which servant told you? Give me her name, and we'll confront her now!"

Joan panicked and stammered, "A friend saw it happen and told me!"

John didn't buy it. He snapped, "You lying woman, can you utter a single truth? First, you claim you heard it from a servant, then from a friend. If you don't explain, I'll call the police right now! Did you have something to do with Mary's accident?"

Joan burst into tears, yelling, "Fine, call the police! Let them take me away! I didn't harm her! John, you're cruel! You're letting Jessica's lies poison your mind, and now you can't even stand me and Pearl! I'll just kill myself!"

Her cries echoed through the villa.

John had always been aware of Joan's lower-class background, but she used to fear him. Now, her tantrum left him  utterly bewildered and unable to respond.

Jessica walked in, looking at Joan coldly. "Dad, let it go. The doctor said Mary isn't seriously injured. When she wakes up, we'll know the truth."

Joan's crying stopped. She pondered, 'What did she say? Mary isn't seriously injured? Could she wake up?'

Joan tried to hide her nerves. "Fine, let's wait for her to wake up and clear my name!"

The drama ended for now.

In his anger, John sent Joan back hometown.

Jessica had bodyguards placed outside Mary's hospital room.

If Joan tried anything, she'd be caught.

Back in her room, Jessica lay on her bed, thinking about the past two days.

The police said Mary's accident was due to jaywalking. But was it really an accident?

Joan's reaction suggested she was involved. But why would Joan want to harm Mary?

Jessica couldn't sleep, tossing and turning.
