Chapter 45 Jealousy
Thinking about it, James's face darkened even more.
He'd been drowning in guilt since last night, feeling like he'd wronged Jessica.
And what about her?
She didn't care at all!
She was cozying up to another guy.
Nathan dropped Jessica off at home. She didn't dare invite him in.
She was scared James might be home.
Nathan, being the gentleman he was, drove off after dropping her off.
Jessica walked in and immediately asked, "Olivia, has James come back?"
She thought with a bit of hope, 'If he knows he hurt me, will he regret it? Will he care more about me? Will he see Rose for who she really is?'
But Olivia hesitated and said, "Mrs. Kelly, Mr. Kelly hasn't come back. Should I call him and ask?"
Jessica forced a bitter smile. "No need. He probably doesn't have time to come back."
After all, he had to be with Rose!
She trudged to her bedroom and flopped onto the bed.
Suddenly, her phone rang urgently.
She looked at the caller ID; it was an unknown number.
Jessica answered, "Hello, who is this?"
Adam Stewart's anxious voice came through, "Jessica, it's Lily's dad. Do you know Lily's been detained for intentional injury?"
Jessica's heart sank. She hadn't told Adam about this, fearing he'd worry.
But how did Adam find out?
Jessica cautiously asked, "Who told you this, sir?"
Adam anxiously said, "The lawyer's letter was sent to our home! The lawyer called me and said it was for hitting a dancer named Rose. How could this happen? She hasn't been in touch with me much lately. You're her best friend; do you know anything about it?"
Jessica didn't know how to tell Adam that Lily was defending her. She really couldn't say it.
All of this was her fault!
She thought for a moment and comforted, "Sir, please don't worry. I'll find a way."
"Do you have a way?" Adam sighed, "You don't know, this isn't just about paying money. From the tone of the other side, they don't lack money. The key is, do you know who the lawyer is?"
Jessica curiously asked, "Who?"
Adam was almost in tears, "Michael Watson! The most famous lawyer in Ocean City, known for his high win rate in court. Do you think Lily has any chance against him?"
Jessica suddenly remembered that Lily had mentioned this lawyer before.
She thought, 'Isn't he the scumbag who wanted Lily to be his secret lover? Although he's a scumbag, someone with Rose's background and circle would almost never know someone of Michael's status and level. Therefore, Michael is very likely hired by James to deal with Lily. Does James really want to destroy Lily?'
Jessica felt a chill in her heart.
In the end, she really meant nothing to James.
If he had considered her even a little, he wouldn't treat her best friend like this.
All he cared about was whether Rose was hurt or not.
Jessica reassured Adam, "Sir, I promise you, I will make sure Lily comes out safe and sound. She won't have a criminal record."
After finishing the call with Adam, Olivia's voice came from outside the door.
"Mrs. Kelly, Mr. Kelly is back!"
Olivia's voice had a hint of joy, and she said with a smile, "Shall we have dinner now? I've already prepared it."
Jessica finally felt a glimmer of hope and immediately ran out of the room.
