Chapter 334 Nathan Helped Her Out (1)

Nathan strolled over and said, "Jessica, you're really burning the midnight oil. Everyone else has bailed, and here you are, still grinding away."

"Hey, Professor Howard," Jessica greeted him, a bit shy. She wanted to vent about Cynthia, but honestly, all the senior docs treated interns like this. Plus, Nathan probably wouldn't get the struggle of being an intern. She just wanted to wrap up her work. Kylie was a better person to gripe to than Nathan.

Just then, the night shift doc nearby chimed in, "Professor Howard, you might not know since you're not around much, but Cynthia makes Jessica pull overtime every day. She was on the night shift last night and now she's here late again."

Nathan looked a bit surprised and glanced at Jessica. Then, with a serious look, he asked, "How much more do you have to do? What kind of stuff is it?"

Jessica laid out the tasks Cynthia had dumped on her. Nathan's frown deepened, and he said, "Stop doing these. These don't need to be done by tomorrow. Let Cynthia handle her own mess."

Right then, Cynthia rushed in and asked, "Professor Howard, is the surgery patient here yet?"

Even though she had been on the night shift, Cynthia didn't want to miss out on assisting in the surgery. Hearing Nathan was the lead surgeon, she hurried over. Nathan, the youngest professor at Ocean City Medical School, was in his early thirties and already a big deal academically. Rumor had it he wasn't married, and their ages matched up pretty well. Cynthia thought if she could get close to Nathan, it would solve her marriage problem and boost her career.

But Nathan's look wasn't as friendly as usual; it had a cold edge. He said with a chilly smile, "Ms. Wells, I must be quite the big shot to have you as my assistant."

"Professor Howard, it's an honor to assist in your surgery," Cynthia quickly replied, trying to butter him up.

Nathan's gaze turned icy, and he said, "Ms. Wells, you haven't finished your work. How could I let you assist in the surgery and waste your time?"

Cynthia was taken aback and quickly said, "I'm almost done. Don't worry, I won't hold up the team's work."

But Nathan handed a stack of medical records next to Jessica to Cynthia and said, "Yeah, Jessica has almost finished your work. The rest is for you to do."

Cynthia had no choice but to take the pile of medical records, glaring at Jessica with hatred.

Jessica must have ratted her out to Nathan! How could she lose face in front of Jessica?

Cynthia quickly tried to fix the situation. "Professor Howard, I'll definitely finish the work by tomorrow. You can't do the surgery without an assistant tonight. Let me help you!"
