Chapter 147 Don't Want to Be Controlled by Others (1)
The next morning, Jessica woke up in a sweat, screaming, "Let me out! No!"
James hugged her quickly. "Another nightmare?"
Jessica took a moment to calm down, still a bit dazed. Thankfully, it was just a dream. It's all over now!
She sighed in relief. "What time is it? I think I have a class today."
James replied, "I already asked Sean to take a leave for you. No classes this week. Just take a rest."
"But my graduate exams are coming up. I can't slack off," Jessica protested.
James smiled. "Even if you don't pass, I've got you. Relax, okay?"
Jessica rolled her eyes. "Nice try. If that happens, I'll have to rely on you for everything."
James pinched her nose. "Aren't I already taking care of you? Your tuition and living expenses are on me."
Jessica couldn't argue with that. It was true.
James had her lie down. "Get some more sleep. You need rest."
"What about you?" she asked, looking at him with hopeful eyes.
James ruffled her hair. "Grandpa's worried about you. I need to let him know you're safe."
Jessica suddenly remembered something. "Did Mr. Kelly tell you to go to the Evans family to save me?"
James nodded, and Jessica felt a bit disappointed. She had hoped he came because he was worried about her.
James saw her expression and said, "I'm not a mind reader. But if I knew you were in danger, I'd come back immediately."
His words, though not sweet, warmed Jessica's heart.
She hugged him. "James, it's so good to have you."
"Be good, sleep now." He kissed her forehead and left.
After he left, Jessica couldn't sleep. She checked her phone and was stunned.
Today's trending topic was: "Wealthy Matriarch Imprisons Granddaughter, Outrage Ensues."
The picture showed Louisa looking disheveled in a detention center.
Jessica knew only James could make such news trend instantly.
But she felt confused.
Just then, John called.
Jessica hesitated. He must have seen the news and wanted to plead for Louisa.
But Jessica didn't want to deal with it. Louisa had been cruel to her, and she was reluctant to be entangled.
The only thing Jessica could do was not kick her when she was down.
