Chapter 325 He Finally Granted Her Freedom Through Divorce (1)
James asked, "Now that John's so badly hurt, can't he get bailed out?"
Michael sighed, "It's tough. The court's already got the case. At best, the trial might get postponed, but there's no way they'll let John out on bail."
Jessica had seen this coming. John had hit Rose, and now her leg was messed up, ending her dance career. No way she'd let him off easy. No matter how powerful James was, he couldn't bend the law. He'd already done a lot to help.
Jessica had made up her mind. She was just waiting for news about John's surgery and didn't want to talk to James about their relationship.
A few hours later, John was finally wheeled out of the operating room. It was the first time Jessica had seen him since he got locked up.
"Dad!" she cried, rushing to his side, but the police pulled her back.
John was still out from the anesthesia. His hair had gone gray, and in just a couple of weeks, he looked ten years older.
Heartbroken, Jessica pleaded, "Please, let me see my dad. Please!"
The officer, sticking to the rules, said, "The doctor said the surgery went well. If there's anything else, we'll let you know."
They blocked Jessica from going in, but she lost it and tried to push her way through.
"Jessica!" James grabbed her and pulled her back. "Calm down. Your dad's still out cold. What can you say to him now?"
Jessica screamed, "Did you see him? He's got so many more wrinkles, his hair's all white! He's covered in bandages and so badly hurt. But I can't be with him. How can I be okay with that? Don't stop me! I need to see my dad. I need to..."
Before she could finish, she fainted.
James panicked and picked her up, shouting, "Doctor! Help!"
After a bit, the doctor said Jessica had fainted from being too emotional. To keep her from more stress, James took her home while she was still out.
When Jessica woke up, the first thing she wanted to do was see John.
James stopped her and said firmly, "Stop it, Jessica. You're an adult now. You know this isn't helping. Right now, you need to calm down and think of ways to help your dad."
"Is there even a way?" Jessica smiled weakly. "Even you and Michael can't get him out. What hope do we have?"
James didn't know what to say. What he just said was to calm her down. But it did seem hopeless.
They both went quiet; the tension in the air was thick.
After a long pause, James said slowly, "Jessica, no matter what, we all know your dad hit Rose. Right?"
Jessica was stunned, looking at him in disbelief. "What are you saying? What do you mean?"
Though it was hard for him, James continued, "Since he hurt Rose, shouldn't he face the consequences? Jessica, I know you care about your dad, but what about Rose? Her legs are shattered. Even if she heals, she'll never dance again. Her whole life was about dance, and because of your dad, she'll never be on stage again."
