Chapter 503 The Only Person She Can't Stop Worrying About (1)
Jessica muttered to herself, "Even though Lily said she was willing, anyone can see how reluctant she is around Michael. Anyway, James isn't going to help. Dad, can you think of a way to help Lily?"
John was already drenched in cold sweat, his spine tingling with a vague sense of foreboding.
Jessica noticed John's pale face and asked worriedly, "Dad, what's wrong? Why do you look so bad?"
"Nothing."
John quickly shook his head, but his mind was in turmoil, unable to calm down.
He tentatively asked, "Does the Stewart family's bankruptcy have anything to do with this Lawyer Watson you mentioned? Did Lily tell you anything?"
"I don't know either. Lily didn't tell me much."
Jessica said anxiously, "She's in a terrible state today and even said she wanted to cut ties with me, probably to avoid dragging me down. But I guess it's because her dad is in jail, and she wants Michael to help her with the case, right?"
John's mind was even more chaotic. Michael's last name was 'Watson,' and the person who died from the side effects of their developed drug years ago also had the last name 'Watson.'
Could they be related?
John almost didn't dare to think further, feeling a sense of impending doom.
Afraid that Jessica would notice something was wrong, he forced a calm smile and said, "Jessica, about the Stewart family, I think you should listen to James and stay out of it. After all, we've already caused James enough trouble! There are too many unfortunate people in this world; James can't take care of everyone, can he?"
Jessica became anxious and complained, "Dad, why are you like this too? You know how close Lily and I are! Even though you don't interact much with Uncle Adam, have you forgotten how much Lily has helped me? How can I just stand by at a time like this?"
Suddenly, she thought of something, her eyes lit up, and she grabbed John's arm, saying, "Dad, why don't you think of a way to help me?"
John was startled and quickly pulled his hand away, saying, "How could I have a way? Adam has committed a serious crime, and even James can't intervene. What idea could I come up with? Jessica, I'm getting old and don't want to deal with these things anymore. Please don't make it difficult for me."
"Okay."
Jessica sighed and said, "Forget it, it's my own fault for being incompetent. I can't save my own friend. I'll go upstairs to sleep now. I'll probably be staying at home for the next few days."
After saying that, she got up and walked upstairs, her back looking extremely dejected.
John watched Jessica's retreating figure, his gaze growing deeper and more distant, but his eyes were filled with a sense of doom.
He knew that the matter from years ago would eventually have to be resolved.
In the bedroom.
Jessica lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep, her mind filled with images of Lily and Michael together.
Just thinking about how the once proud and flamboyant Lily was now being controlled by Michael made her feel suffocated.
Her phone lay quietly beside her, and after staring at it for a long time, no messages came through.
She pouted. When was James ever so easy to talk to?
Jessica touched her belly and murmured to herself, "Baby, what should I do?"
She didn't sleep well all night.
The next morning, the first thing Jessica did was check her phone.
But there were no messages from James, and no sign of him compromising.
