Chapter 199 Cutting Ties with Rose (3)

She finished talking, spun around, and dashed downstairs. James watched her go, feeling a slight heartache, but it was more like a weird sense of relief, as if a heavy weight had been lifted.

Back in the hospital room, he saw Jessica by the window, lost in thought.

His footsteps made her turn around. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying, but there was a hint of surprise and unexpected joy.

"I thought you left with her," Jessica blurted out.

James stood a short distance away, looking deeply at her. Suddenly, he took a few quick steps and pulled her into his arms.

"James," she murmured, confused as she hugged him back. "What's wrong with you?"

James just held her tightly. "Don't talk. Just let me hold you for a while, okay?" he murmured, his voice so low and gentle it could melt her. Jessica felt an urge to cry.

When he finally let her go, Jessica softly asked, "Did you fight with Rose?"

James stayed silent, unable to explain how long Rose had deceived him.

But Jessica looked him in the eye and said firmly, "I'm not your comfort when you fight with her, and I don't want to be your backup. James, I'd rather you divorce me than blow hot and cold."

"I broke up with her," James finally said, his voice low and hoarse. "From now on, Rose is out of our lives."

Jessica was so shocked she stammered, "You and her...?"

"Yes, it's completely over," James confirmed, his tone resolute. He cupped her cheeks, making her look at him. "Jessica, no matter who you were with before, from now on, you are just my wife. I want our life to be just us. Can you do that?"

Jessica's heart pounded as she listened. She needed to be sure. "So you mean we're not getting a divorce?"

"Yes, we're not," James confirmed, his certainty clear.

He thought she would cry with joy or throw herself into his arms. But Jessica didn't react as he expected. She stood there blankly, not looking at him or saying anything.

James got anxious. He placed his hands on her shoulders, trying to get through to her. "Jessica, did you hear me? We're not getting a divorce. I don't care about your past. From today on, you are my wife."

Jessica finally reacted. She broke free, took a few steps back, and smiled sadly.

"Do you think that just because you accept it, I should be grateful?" she asked, disappointed. "But James, our marriage has no trust, no respect. It's always about what you want, and I have to comply."

Jessica slowly shook her head, disillusioned. "I don't want this. I don't know what happened between you and Rose, but I'm not your backup!"

James, already hurt by what happened with Rose. Now, Jessica's rejection felt like the final blow. He felt his pride was shattered by these two women.

He couldn't bring himself to beg or comfort her at that moment.
