Chapter 91 It Doesn't Matter Anymore

James wondered, 'Is the guy Jessica's seeing the senior who saved her?'

Jessica didn't tell him the truth because it didn't matter anymore. Even if James knew, their marriage was over. She didn't want him to know how desperate she felt, clinging to any warmth he gave her.

So, she shook her head, "I don't even remember what he looks like. Since then, I've stopped feeling inferior and accepted my parents' divorce. Everyone makes mistakes. My dad made mistakes, but he took good care of me, never let me suffer, and wouldn't let Joan and Pearl bully me. When I was sick, he stayed up all night to care for me. When I missed my mom, he took me to see her while she was on duty. So, I forgave him. Especially after my mom died, he was the sole blood relative I had remaining."

James listened, feeling a sense of loss. He bitterly muttered, "Then you're luckier than I am."

Jessica had heard that James's mother was driven away by Linda and George. Since then, she disappeared, never to be seen again.

"Your mom..." Jessica started to suggest James try to find her, given his connections.

But James cut her off coldly, "Don't mention her."

In short, he was even more unfortunate than Jessica because neither of his parents cared about him.

If his mom was still alive but never came to find him and never saw him again, showing such heartlessness, then he was even more pitiful than Jessica.

That night, screams echoed at the door of the Evans family.

Joan and the others thought they misheard until the maids outside also screamed, "Ah!"

Joan and Pearl ran out and found Kevin's legs broken, bloodied, and mangled, with countless other injuries.

"Oh my God, Kevin, who did this?" Joan was terrified and called for someone to dial 911 while others carried Kevin inside.

Meanwhile, Louisa fainted at the sight.

Pearl cried, "Mom, we're doomed. This must be James's doing. He's teaching us a lesson, doing this to Kevin at our doorstep. What if we're next?"

Joan finally saw James's cruelty and started to fear.

Kevin, barely able to speak, mumbled, "Joan, my company went bankrupt. All the partners canceled their contracts. It's all screwed!"

"What?" Joan was shocked. She had secretly invested a lot of money into Kevin's company, making her the second-largest shareholder.

If it went bankrupt, her two hundred thousand dollars would be gone.

Looking at the fainted Louisa and the half-dead Kevin, Joan couldn't hold back her anger.

She trembled with rage, gritting her teeth, "That bitch, Jessica! She must have pretended not to be favored by James to lure us in. Now, she's taking crazy revenge on us."

Pearl, also scared, trembled as she said, "What do we do now? Dad will be back from his business trip in a few days. If he finds out what happened, he'll kill us!"
