Chapter 417 This Time, It's Your Turn to Take the Initiative (3)
Jessica sulked and said, "Fine, I won't go to school anymore. I'll just stay here and serve you, okay?"
After saying that, she angrily put down her utensils and prepared to go back to her room.
James called out to her back, "Come back here! Jessica!"
Unfortunately, Jessica was stubborn and completely ignored him.
James ground his molars. Had Jessica forgotten why she came back?
The Evans family's fate was in his hands, and she still dared to treat him with such an attitude!
In the bedroom.
Jessica was furious, continuously hitting the pillow as if it were James!
Just then, John sent a text message asking how the loan from The Kelly Corporation was progressing.
Jessica felt extremely upset. John must have been too embarrassed to even call, so he sent a message instead.
And herself?
She still thought she was the former Mrs. Kelly, throwing tantrums and acting spoiled with James.
But she had forgotten.
Now, to James, she was nothing more than a pet he could summon or dismiss at will. She had no right to be angry.
So, she adjusted her emotions, suppressed her sadness, and opened the bedroom door.
Downstairs, James had already left the dining table.
Olivia kindly reminded her, "Mr. Kelly went to the study."
"Okay, I'll go cut some fruit for him."
Jessica nodded and took a cantaloupe and a mango from the fridge.
Olivia quickly said, "Mrs. Kelly, let me do it. You should rest."
"I'll do it myself."
Jessica knew she had made him angry earlier. If she didn't do something, with his temper, he would only make things harder for The Evans family.
So, she took some of his favorite fruits and went to the kitchen to make a fruit platter.
However, while cutting the fruit, her mind was preoccupied with The Evans family's matters, and she was distracted.
"Ah!"
Jessica screamed as blood started flowing from her index finger.
Olivia was frightened and immediately ran over, saying, "Oh no, such a long cut. You need to go to the hospital."
"No, no, it's fine."
Jessica quickly put her hand under the running water, took a deep breath, and said, "The cut isn't deep. I don't need to go to the hospital. I can handle it myself."
Olivia worriedly said, "What should we do? I told you I should be the one doing these chores!"
Just then, James's voice came over.
He immediately grabbed Jessica's hand under the running water, his brows furrowed, and asked, "What happened?"
Olivia, trembling, said, "Mrs. Kelly was cutting fruit for you and accidentally cut her hand. It's my fault. I shouldn't have let Mrs. Kelly do these chores!"
James's heart tightened, and he scolded, "Jessica, who told you to do these things? Do you think I brought you back to be a maid or a servant to serve me?"
At his shout, Jessica pouted and said, "Everything I do is wrong! I just wanted to make you happy, to please you. Is that wrong, too?"
James's face remained stern, his lips tightly pressed, as he silently helped her rinse her injured finger.
Jessica, both angry and in pain, broke down and cried, sobbing like a child who had been scolded by an adult.
James said nothing. After rinsing the blood from her finger, he took her back to the bedroom.
He took out a first aid kit, his tall and slender figure crouching in front of her, helping her disinfect the wound.
Jessica's heart softened completely, feeling even more aggrieved, and she mumbled softly, "I don't need your fake kindness. I can do it myself."
Unexpectedly, James handed her the gauze and alcohol, saying, "Go ahead, let me see how you do it!"
