Chapter 135 Jack Suddenly Invited the Evans Family

Despite her personal disdain for Pearl and even greater hatred for Joan, Jessica understood that the marriage between Jack and Pearl was a significant matter involving both families.
If John didn't intervene, wouldn't Gerald think the Evans family was being disrespectful?
While Jessica was mulling it over, a servant came up and said, "Mr. Evans, Mr. Jack Kelly from the Kelly family called and said he's visiting you and Mrs. Joan Evans this afternoon."
"What? This afternoon?" John exclaimed, caught off guard by Jack's sudden visit.
Jessica sighed and suggested, "Dad, why not bring Joan back? Jack will surely come to talk about the wedding soon. As Pearl's mom, Joan needs to be here. Even if it's her fault, outsiders will only see it as you being too harsh."
Under Jessica's persuasion, John didn't want to make things worse. After all, Jessica was part of the Kelly family too.
If he clashed with the Kelly family, wouldn't Jessica's life there get tougher?
So, he had the driver bring Joan back.
At noon, Joan returned, acting all arrogant, showing none of the fear from the previous day.
Jessica didn't need to guess that Pearl had told Joan about Jack's visit to support her.
Joan even brought Louisa back from the countryside.

Since Louisa had caused trouble for Jessica previously and was sent to the countryside by John, she was much more obedient this time, even greeting Jessica with an unexpected warmth, saying, "Jessica, you're back!"
Jessica gave a cold smile and nodded, "Hello, Grandma."
For Louisa, who never treated her as a real granddaughter, Jessica only aimed to be polite.
Louisa then eagerly looked at Jack and exclaimed eagerly, "Oh my, is this my future grandson-in-law? He's so handsome!"
"Mrs. Louisa Evans, you're too kind!" Jack said, bringing many gifts and showing a complete change in attitude.
The only awkward moment was when he saw Jessica.
But Jessica acted naturally. She helped John entertain Jack and then went upstairs to call Pearl.
Unfortunately, Pearl's jealousy flared up as soon as she saw Jessica. With a sarcastic tone, she remarked, "Pretending to be all gentle and generous in front of Jack? You must be dying of jealousy inside, right?"
Jessica stood at her door and calmly asked, "What am I jealous of?"
"Of course, you're jealous that I have a child with the Kelly family even before marrying into it," Pearl said disdainfully, looking her up and down. "And look at you, married to James for two years and not a single child!"
Jessica felt a sharp sting from Pearl's harsh words. Despite knowing how cruel Pearl could be, it still pained her deeply that her younger half-sister, harbored such intense hatred toward her.but it still hurt that her sister, born of the same father, hated her so much.
She looked at Pearl's heavily made-up face and said meaningfully, "Your makeup is too thick today."
