Chapter 82 Dad Is Sick

Rose faked surprise and quickly pulled away. "No, you're wrong. That's not mine. James, you should go back. I'm fine. Just go!"

The more she acted like this, the more James thought she was really sick. Especially when she was holding that fruit knife earlier, it looked like depression.

James grabbed her shoulders, staring at her. "Tell me, when did you first get sick?"

Thinking about how cold he'd been to her lately, James felt really guilty.

Under his questioning, Rose finally spoke up, hurt. "Probably after that night I gave myself to you. I'm a traditional woman; my purity means a lot to me. I thought after all this time, you'd give me an answer. But now, I don't dare hope; I feel like you've changed, maybe you don't love me anymore."

At this moment, she suddenly broke down in tears and uttered, "But James, I only gave myself to you. Purity is so important to me. If you decide to cast me aside, how am I supposed to live? I don't want to be sick, but lately, the essence of life appears void of significance."

James held her, comforting her. "Rose, I'm so sorry. I've been so busy and neglected you. But believe me, I'll take responsibility. It's my fault. You were defiled by me, but I didn't give you a status right away."

Rose looked at him with tearful eyes. "What about your wife? She hates me and won't let us be together."

Sadness flashed in James's eyes; he'd been too emotional lately, causing everything to go off track.

The one who gave up her purity was Rose; the one devoted to him was also Rose.

He held her and comforted, "Don't worry. I'll handle it."

Rose leaned against his chest. "James, just hearing you say that is enough. Without you, I wouldn't have the courage to live."

James reassured her. "Rose, tomorrow I'll contact the best specialists and take you to see them. Trust me, we can cure this."

That night, James stayed with Rose, afraid she might do something rash.

Meanwhile, Jessica didn't sleep at all. By noon of the next day, the phone woke her up.

"Hello," she answered, sounding tired.

Pearl's sharp voice came through. "Jessica, are you still part of the Evans family or not? Dad's been sick for days, and you haven't even come to see him!"

Jessica quickly sat up, concerned. "Dad's sick? When did this happen?"

"A few days ago, and it's really serious now. Your choice is yours!" Pearl hung up without saying what kind of illness it was.

Jessica got out of bed, washed up, and grabbed a casual outfit before heading downstairs.

Olivia approached her. "Mrs. Kelly, I've made lunch."

Jessica explained while changing her shoes. "Olivia, I won't be eating at home. I just got a call saying my dad is seriously ill. I need to go back immediately."

Olivia quickly advised, "Be careful on the road; don't rush."

Jessica hurried out the door. Not long after, James came back.
