Chapter 367 He Still Can't Let Her Go (1)

Jessica rolled her eyes at Kylie and said, "Seriously, just stop! The more you talk, the crazier it sounds! Professor Howard is my teacher, and I respect him, okay? What are you even talking about?"

Kylie wouldn't let it go. "So what if he's your teacher? Lots of student-teacher relationships work out fine. It's not like it's illegal or anything. I heard Professor Howard is single! I think he might be into you too. Why else would he go out of his way to help interns like us, even if it means going against the director?"

Jessica's head was spinning from Kylie's words, so she pushed her away, saying, "Oh, come on, just go study. Bye!"

Even as she got into the elevator, Kylie called out, "I'm not joking. Think about it seriously!"

Jessica quickly shook her head, trying to stop herself from overthinking.

When she went to Gerald's room that evening, James was already there.

Seeing her come in, James looked at her with a tender gaze, his eyes full of concern.

Gerald wasn't doing well today, lying in bed with a high fever that wouldn't break.

Jessica was really worried and asked, "When did this start, Butler?"

The butler said gravely, "He started having a fever this morning. The doctor has already given him an injection and medication, but the fever hasn't gone down."

Jessica and James exchanged a glance, both looking helpless and desperate.

They knew deep down that Gerald probably didn't have much time left.

The butler said, "Mr. James Kelly, Mrs. Kelly, you haven't eaten yet, have you? I'll watch over Mr. Gerald Kelly here. You should go eat something, or your bodies won't hold up."

James didn't have much of an appetite, but thinking about how Jessica had been working all day, he stood up and took her hand, saying, "Let's go eat."

"I don't want to eat. I want to stay here with Grandpa." Jessica choked up, unable to leave Gerald's side.

James said firmly, "If Grandpa knew you weren't eating just to stay with him, he would be worried. Come on. Let's go eat."

With that, he coaxed her to a nearby restaurant.

Nowadays, when James was alone with her, Jessica was mostly silent.

James served her some food and asked gently, "How was work today? Is the school still giving you a hard time?"

"No." Jessica seemed unwilling to say more, giving a cold reply.

James felt a pang in his heart.

He looked at her with hurt in his eyes and said, "So now you don't even want to talk to me? Jessica, do you hate me that much?"

Jessica put down her knife and fork, looking at him calmly. "That's because I'm very clear-headed now. We're already divorced. If it weren't for Grandpa, we wouldn't even be seeing each other."

James was at a loss for words, clearly disagreeing with her but unable to find a reason to argue.

Just then, James's phone vibrated.

When he answered, Sean's voice came through, "Mr. Kelly, the issue with Miss Evans at the hospital has been resolved. I heard that Professor Howard paid the patient's family $200,000 to settle it privately and they are no longer causing trouble. Since the hospital didn't have to pay anything, they let Miss Evans off the hook."
