Chapter 422 Acquisition of The Evans Corporation (4)

He had no choice but to return to report to James, feeling dejected.

John's reaction was within James's expectations. He nodded and said, "I understand. You can go back now."

After work in the evening, he first went to the cardiology department entrance to pick up Jessica.

He happened to see Jessica coming out with Nathan.

He didn't know what they were talking about, but Nathan was smiling warmly at Jessica, and Jessica was smiling back at him.

Jessica hadn't smiled at him like that in a long, long time.

It wasn't until they saw him standing at the entrance that both of them stopped smiling.

A complex expression flashed in Nathan's eyes. Without even greeting James, he said to Jessica, "Remember not to be late tomorrow. I'm leaving."

"Goodbye, Professor Howard."

Jessica politely said goodbye to him, feeling that the atmosphere was a bit strange.

Seeing James's displeased expression, Jessica quickly explained, "I was assisting Professor Howard in surgery today, that's why we came out together."

James noticed the stark contrast between her anxious demeanor now and her relaxed state with Nathan.

He spoke with a hint of threat in his voice, "I trust you wouldn't dare do anything to betray me. But in the future, don't let me see you walking with him. I don't like it!"

Jessica obediently nodded and said, "Okay."

Then, she cautiously requested, "Can you stop picking me up in the future? I'm afraid it might not look good to my classmates and teachers."

James felt a surge of anger. Jessica really knew how to irritate him!

Chatting and laughing with Nathan was fine, but him picking her up was a problem.

James looked down at her and said, "What do you mean it doesn't look good? Are you afraid your colleagues will find out that you became my lover for three million dollars?"

He deliberately used hurtful words to make her feel the pain he was feeling.

Jessica's face turned a shade paler, and she suppressed the humiliation in her eyes, whispering, "If that's how you want to see it, I have nothing to say."

Just then, Jessica received a call from John.

She hesitated, glanced at James, and then walked a bit further away to answer the call.

James knew exactly why John was calling Jessica.

This was good; it saved him the trouble of arguing with Jessica.

Soon, Jessica finished her call with John and walked back to him, holding her phone.

"Are you planning to acquire The Evans Corporation?"

She looked at him, frowning, and asked, "Why?"

James calmly replied, "A company that's been losing money for years—if I lend them money without any benefit, what's the point? In that case, it's better to acquire it under The Kelly Corporation and have professionals manage it."

Jessica anxiously argued, "That's not what you said at the beginning. You said that as long as I came back to you, you would lend money to help The Evans Corporation."

James smirked and said, "Did you really think you were worth that much? Having you back was just one of the conditions for helping The Evans Corporation. Jessica, either you watch The Evans Corporation go bankrupt, or you convince your father to sign the acquisition agreement."
