Chapter 332 We Can Still Be Friends (1)

Jessica freaked out and bolted.

Rose spotted her too and quickly faked a stomachache, groaning, "James, my stomach's acting up again. Can you take me to the doctor first?"

For over a month, Rose had been all sweet and understanding, never bringing up the idea of James marrying her again. This had kinda won him back. Even though he hadn't made it official, he never missed a prenatal checkup and often went with her to buy baby stuff and books.

She couldn't let James go back to Jessica; all her efforts would be for nothing.

In the stairwell, Jessica leaned against the cold wall, tears soaking her lashes.

Out of nowhere, a blue handkerchief appeared in front of her. She knew that handkerchief. Looking up, she saw James and blurted, "How did you know I was here?"

James gave a gentle smile and said, "Just a hunch." He nudged the handkerchief towards her again. "Wipe your tears."

Jessica suddenly felt that after their divorce, James seemed way calmer and gentler than before. When they were together, she always made him mad. Maybe they really weren't meant to be.

She didn't take the handkerchief. Instead, she wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and forced a smile, saying, "Don't you have something to do? I'll get out of your hair."

She turned to leave, but James stopped her, grabbing her hand. Her heart skipped a beat. She looked back at him, signaling him to let go.

James' deep eyes were full of emotion as he softly asked, "How have you been lately?"

Jessica forced a smile and said, "Pretty good. My dad's almost recovered. I'm content."

James paused, looking worried. "But why do you look so exhausted?"

"Oh, I just finished a night shift," Jessica replied like they were just friends, but it took an enormous amount of self-control for her to hide her vulnerability and distress.

Only then did James believe they were truly over. Jessica was so distant and cold. He didn't dare to approach her rashly, fearing she'd despise him.

He looked at her with lingering feelings and said, "If you need anything, just come to me. Don't bear it alone. Even if we're not a couple anymore, we can still be friends, right?"

Jessica felt even worse and wanted to cry. She lowered her head and said, "I really have to go now. Goodbye."

James watched her leave, feeling a mix of emotions, and glanced at his empty hand, where the warmth of her touch still lingered.

Jessica went to the hospital garden to wait for Kylie. Not long after, Kylie showed up, but she didn't look happy.

Jessica asked, "What's wrong? Did the teacher scold you?"

"No," Kylie sighed and hesitated before saying, "I was just about to get off work, and then... Never mind. It's just bad luck!"

Jessica followed her words and said, "James took Rose for a prenatal checkup, right?"

Kylie looked surprised and asked, "How did you know?"

"I saw them," Jessica said, smiling bitterly. "Otherwise, why would I be here waiting for you?"

Kylie suddenly got it and grumbled, "I thought so! Are you okay? It's so unfair. That homewrecker got hit so badly, yet she still kept the baby. It's infuriating!"
