Chapter 85 James Goes to the Evans Family to Support Her

Jessica clenched her fists, a mix of anger and heartbreak swirling in her mind. Joan and Pearl hating her was one thing, but her own grandma, Louisa, how could she do this to her? That stung.

She sneered at Louisa, "So, should I start calling my dad 'cousin-in-law' now? Ask him. If he agrees, I'll marry!"

Louisa slammed the coffee table, fuming. "How dare you! You keep bringing up your dad. Where does that leave me? Even he listens to me; he's my son! Don't use him against me."

Just then, a servant announced, "Mrs. Louisa Evans, the guest has arrived."

Louisa, now composed, said, "Quick, send him in!"

Jessica hadn't expected them to bring that greasy old man today. She knew that she couldn't sit and wait for her doom. Then she stood up, "You all take your time. I have something to do."

"Do you think you can leave?" Louisa snapped, and two bodyguards blocked the door.

Joan, trying to ease the tension, said, "Jessica, don't upset your grandma. We're not asking you to marry right now. Just meet him. If you don't like him, we won't force you."

Jessica didn't buy it. They'd planned this too long to back down now. Since they had invited that guy, Joan was determined not to settle until she reached her objective. With bodyguards at the door, she had no way out.

Ultimately, she pretended to compromise and followed them to the dining room.

Joan's cousin had already been led in by the servant.

When he saw Jessica, his eyes lit up like a wolf spotting prey.

Jessica realized this man was not only greasy and bald but also shorter than her with a protruding belly. How ridiculous he was!

She laughed to herself; Joan must really hate her to set her up with this guy.

"Come on, Jessica, let me introduce you. This is my cousin, Kevin Miller," Joan said, smiling, and seated Kevin next to Jessica.

Kevin, eyeing Jessica's delicate face, swallowed and extended his hand, "Jessica, I'm Kevin. Nice to meet you."

Jessica glanced at his hand, not intending to shake it. "Excuse me, please call me 'Miss Evans.' My husband dislikes others being too familiar, and so do I."

Kevin awkwardly withdrew his hand but didn't back down. Seeing Jessica in person made him want her even more.

Pearl chimed in, "Jessica, stop pretending! Does your husband care? You've been married two years, and we've never seen you two in love, not even a wedding!"

Jessica's hand clenched under the table, her heart aching. Even she doubted James cared about her.

Kevin, still eyeing Jessica, quickly said, "Jessica, don't worry, I won't mind. I'm sorry to hear that heard he treats you badly. But I'll treat you well."

Jessica sneered, "Mr. Miller, are you kidding? What makes you think you have the right to mind? You should thank your lucky stars that I don't mind you being with your ex-wife and causing her death!"

Kevin was speechless, clearly furious but forced to restrain himself.
