Chapter 134 Hitting Her

His voice was like a drug. Jessica blushed and whispered, "I do."

James chuckled softly, "Go to sleep, good night."

As the call ended, Jessica felt a twinge of frustration. 'I said I miss him, but he didn't say it back. He must miss me too, right?' she thought.

Eventually, she drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, a servant knocked anxiously, waking Jessica up.

"What's wrong?" Jessica asked, annoyed.

The servant, nervous, replied, "Miss Jessica Evans, you should see this. Miss Pearl Evans is arguing with Mr. Evans downstairs! He's about to hit her!"

Hearing this, Jessica rushed downstairs.

She heard Pearl shouting, "Now that Jessica's back, you even kicked my mom out! Do you really think a useless daughter like Jessica will take care of you when you're old?"

"Say one more word, and I'll hit you!" John, trembling with anger, grabbed a stick and moved toward Pearl.

Pearl, having checked out of the hospital early to avoid suspicion, was still recovering from a miscarriage but concealed her condition with heavy makeup.

Holding her waist, Pearl mocked, "Go ahead, hit me right here!"

John, enraged, pointed at her, "Don't think I won't! You're a disgrace to the Evans family!"

He raised the stick to strike.

"Dad!" Jessica ran to stop him.

John, still fuming, exclaimed, "Jessica, don't stop me! Did you hear what she said? She's your younger sister, and those words were beyond cruel!"

"Dad, calm down," Jessica pleaded, stepping between John and Pearl. "Pearl deserves it, but the child she's carrying is innocent. And remember, it's not just her baby. If something happens, we'll all be held responsible!"

Under Jessica's persuasion, John gradually calmed down.

Pearl, ungrateful, snorted, "Stop pretending to be all father-daughter affectionate for. If Dad really had the guts to hit me, he would have done it already!"

After that, she then turned on her heel, her head held high as she arrogantly ascended the stairs.

John cursed at her back, "Ungrateful brat."

Then he turned to Jessica, "Jessica, did you see that? No matter how good you are to her, she's heartless!"

Jessica tried to comfort him, "Dad, you're angry because you care about her. She's your child, and you're worried she's made a terrible mistake. Don't say things in anger. We need to solve this problem."

John, bitter, said, "Solve it? From now on, I don't have a daughter like her. I won't get involved with the Kelly family, and I won't acknowledge it! Let Joan and Pearl deal with their own mess!"
