Chapter 161 Her Birthday Meal

James said, "Really? If everyone with depression had someone they wanted to see, wouldn't that cure depression without meds?"

Rose's face changed, avoiding his gaze. "James, what do you mean?"

James's eyes were complicated. "Nothing, It's merely an expression of my feelings."

Meanwhile, Lily and Jessica went shopping and caught a movie, getting home late.

"Mrs. Kelly, you're back," Olivia said, worried. "It's almost eleven. I was so concerned."

Jessica smiled, "I forgot to leave you a message."

"Glad you're back," Olivia said. "Have you eaten? Want some supper?"

Lily grinned, "We ate. It's Jessica's birthday, so we shopped and ate all day!"

Olivia was surprised, "Oh, it's your birthday? Mr. Kelly doesn't know, does he?"

Olivia thought, 'If he knew, why did he say he wouldn't be home tonight?'

Lily cursed, "That jerk's with his mistress! He doesn't care about Jessica."

Jessica didn't want to discuss James, so she changed the subject, "Olivia, you should rest. Don't mention this to James. It doesn't matter anymore."

Her birthday was almost over, just an hour left. A once-a-year event.

Olivia sighed and went to the kitchen to make Jessica's favorite pasta.

By then, Lily had left. Olivia brought the pasta to the bedroom. "Mrs. Kelly, happy birthday! How about some pasta? It's your favorite."

Jessica felt warm inside. "Thank you, Olivia."

Olivia blushed, "I just found out it was your birthday. It's just pasta, and you're being so polite."

"This is more than just pasta," Jessica muttered, twirling some onto her fork. She started eating, but tears blurred her vision. She fought to hold them back but couldn't. This year, aside from Olivia and Lily, even John seemed distant. She wondered, 'Will everyone I love leave me one by one?'

Her phone rang, breaking her thoughts. For a moment, she hoped it was James. But the caller ID disappointed her.

"Hello, Jack. What's up so late?" she answered, trying to keep her voice steady.

She thought Jack was calling about Pearl. Thinking of the Evans family, Jessica felt disheartened and didn't want to say much.

But Jack asked, "Jessica, can you come out for a moment? I'm right outside the villa."

"What?" Jessica was stunned; it was almost midnight.

Jack said softly, "It won't take long, just come out for a bit!"

Feeling it would be rude to leave him alone, she threw on a light cardigan and went out.
