Chapter 254 She Had to Do Something to Retort
James suddenly noticed John was hurt. Knowing how much John meant to Jessica, he blurted out, "How is your dad's condition?"
Jessica shot back, "Ask Rose! She knows what went down with my dad!"
Rose, on the verge of tears, defended herself, "James, I just told security to escort Mr. Evans out. I have no clue what happened after that! They wouldn't just attack him for no reason, right? Maybe there was some mix-up or beef?"
Jessica, losing her cool, snapped, "Cut the act, Rose! You owe my dad an apology, or we're taking you to court!"
James eyed Rose suspiciously and asked, "Why would the guards attack if no one told them to?"
Rose got out of bed, wobbling as she moved forward. She said sadly, "You think I'm behind this too? Fine, I'll leave! That way, Ms. Evans gets what she wants!"
She headed for the door but noticed James hadn't followed. She faked a stomachache and crouched down.
James, startled, rushed over to help her up. "Are you okay? I'll call a doctor."
Rose pushed him away, looking heartbroken. She choked up, "How could I be okay? Do you really think I'm that kind of person? Fine, I swear! If I told those guards to hurt Jessica's dad, may my unborn child suffer a horrible fate!"
James was taken aback. The kid was innocent, and Rose had been so careful with her pregnancy. No mom would use her kid to make such a nasty promise unless she was telling the truth!
He softened a bit, comforting, "Alright, I believe you. Don't make such harsh promises involving the kid."
Rose smiled, playing it up. "James, you still care about our child, don't you? Otherwise, why stop me from using him to make a promise?"
James, feeling Jessica's eyes on him, got awkward and stayed silent.
Jessica chuckled sarcastically, "It's really unlucky to be your kid!"
Rose clutched her stomach again, pretending to be in pain. "Oh, my stomach hurts again. James, can you ask Ms. Evans to leave? I just want you here with me!"
James told Olivia, "Take Mrs. Kelly back first."
Jessica caught Rose's smug look and knew she had to clap back.
Olivia, not wanting to cross James, timidly asked, "Mrs. Kelly, should we go?"
Jessica, who seemed determined not to leave without a resolution, surprisingly agreed. But before leaving, she gave James a sorrowful look.
"Will you come home tonight?" she asked softly.
James was caught off guard; he hadn't expected Jessica, who had been so mad at him recently, to speak so gently now.
