Chapter 155 Devoting Herself to Him

Rose couldn't figure it out. Even before Jessica came into the picture, James never overstepped any boundaries with her.

He always said that if he couldn't offer her a proper status, sleeping with her would be disrespectful and irresponsible.

Rose hated this mindset. It made her feel like she never truly had James.

"James," Rose's voice was thick with emotion and a hint of desperation. "It's normal for a wife to help her husband wash his back. Shouldn't I start learning to be a good wife now?"

James felt a pang of guilt but stayed firm. "I'm not used to having someone around when I bathe. Please, go out."

Rose clenched the bath sponge, her knuckles turning white. Forcing a smile, she said, "Take your time. I'll go out first."

Though disappointed, she kept her composure, reminding herself that men disliked pushy women.

Meanwhile, at the villa, Jessica was reminded by Lily that tomorrow was her birthday. With everything going on, she had completely forgotten. Her birthdays were usually quiet, just her, Lily, and John.

This year felt different, and she was excited. James would be part of the celebration. He'd even given her a pink diamond necklace in advance, making her heart race.

She glanced at the clock; it was already nine. Why hadn't he come back yet? Unable to help waiting, she picked up her phone and dialed his number, hoping his voice would ease her impatience.

The call was quickly answered, but it was Rose's voice she heard.

"Miss Evans, why aren't you saying anything?" Rose asked knowingly, smiling lightly. "Are you looking for James?"

Jessica froze, her mind going blank. Taking a deep breath, she managed to ask, "Yes, is he there?"

Despite her bravado, Jessica just wanted James with her on her birthday, even with the looming divorce. She hoped this birthday wouldn't be lonely.

But Rose's next words shattered that hope. "I'm really sorry, James is in the shower. If you have something to say, I can pass it on."

As Rose spoke, she walked to the bathroom door and asked, "James, is the water temperature suitable, or does it need adjustment?"

James's voice came from inside, "No, you go rest first."

Jessica heard their conversation, pushing her further into despair. It felt like a dagger twisting in her heart. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she ended the call. Her heart ached so badly it felt like it could burst. The villa's silence amplified her loneliness. Jessica sat on the bed, staring blankly at the dark sky outside. She thought painfully, 'He's really not coming back. My birthday, he probably won't remember it at all. Or maybe he knows but doesn't care. Rose is the one he cherishes the most!'

James came out of the shower to find Rose already in bed. She had put on delicate makeup and let her hair fall like seaweed, looking very alluring.

She looked undeniably beautiful, but instead of feeling drawn to her, he felt a growing sense of dread and discomfort.

He crossed to his side of the bed and lifted the covers, only to discover that Rose was wearing nothing beneath. His pupils contracted sharply, and he immediately dropped the covers, stepping away with a frown. "What are you doing?"

"I've already given you my first time, so I want to give you every time after that, too," Rose said softly, looking at him with tearful eyes full of deep affection. "James, I want to give you all of myself."
