Chapter 58 Targeting Jessica
Back at the villa, it was pitch black.
James flipped on the lights, trying to keep his anger in check.
He called Sean, his voice icy. "I asked you to look into something. Why is it taking so long? Got any results?"
Sean could tell his boss was in a foul mood and quickly replied, "I was just about to report. Professor Howard has been abroad with his team for the past three years, doing research. He's only a professor at Ocean City University in name and has never taught there. I checked his travel records. In the past three years, he's only come back a few times to visit family. He shouldn't have had any chance to get involved with Mrs. Kelly."
James pressed on, "What about Jessica's classmates? Any guys she's close to?"
Sean answered, "I went to the school. Mrs. Kelly isn't close to any male students and hasn't been involved in any scandals. Also, Professor Howard has already gone back abroad and didn't stay long."
After hanging up, James's doubts only grew.
Jessica's infidelity was undeniable.
He had seen the marks on her neck and found that box of birth control pills she couldn't explain.
But how did she manage to hide that man so well?
James didn't sleep a wink that night.
The next day at the office, he was in a foul mood, snapping at everyone.
His subordinates were on edge, trying not to draw his ire.
Finally, during a meeting, James found someone to vent his anger on.
That unlucky person was Jack, the new manager of the planning department.
James tore Jack's proposal apart, leaving him humiliated.
Jack, usually treated with respect as the part of the Kelly family, was furious.
James had said his proposal was worse than what a low-ranking university graduate could produce!
Jack stormed out, slamming the door, and went home.
"Jack, weren't you at work? It's your first day. Why are you back so early?" Linda asked, concerned.
Jack was livid. "That James, one day, I'll make sure he gets kicked out of the Kelly family and begs at my feet!"
Linda quickly asked, "What happened? Did James give you a hard time on your first day?"
Jack fumed, "He trashed my proposal in front of all the senior execs, saying it was worse than what a low-ranking university grad could produce. You have no idea how humiliated I was!"
Linda was angry too but scolded her son, "You really make me mad! He did it on purpose to make you leave. How could you fall for his trick?"
But Jack was adamant. "I'm not going back to take his crap! We're both Kellys. Why should I be beneath him?"
Linda tried to comfort him, "Alright, Jack, I'm trying to come up with a plan for you."
Her eyes suddenly lit up with a scheme. "I heard Jessica moved back to the old house yesterday. Seems your grandpa stepped in because of James and that woman. Lately, your grandpa hasn't been happy with James at all!"
Jack shrugged, "What does that have to do with me? No matter how mad Grandpa is at him, he still lets him be president of the Kelly Corporation."
Linda's eyes gleamed as she said, "Of course, it has something to do with you! Your grandpa favors James because he married Jessica. Jessica's mom saved your grandpa with that surgery no one else dared to do. But James doesn't appreciate her. If Jessica were with you, your mother-in-law would be your grandpa's lifesaver. Then your status with your grandpa..."
Jack cut her off, "Mom! What are you talking about? Jessica is James's wife. I'm the second son of the Kelly family; do I need to take James's woman? Besides, I'm only 24. Why rush to get married?"
He hadn't had enough fun yet!
Linda shook her head and urged, "You just don't get it, do you? We use Jessica to gain favor with your grandpa and take over the Kelly Corporation. Once your grandpa dies, you can kick her out, and I'll find you a well-matched lady. Wouldn't we have everything then?"
