Chapter 195 Rose's Feigned Illness Exposed

She'd been ready for this, having brought up divorce herself many times. But hearing him say "divorce" still cut deep.

"Alright," Jessica said with a faint smile, her voice low and resigned. No point in explaining more; he clearly didn't care.

James avoided his own mixed feelings. Why did he feel a heavy weight in his chest after asking for a divorce? Shouldn't he feel relieved? Ignoring his turmoil, he opened the car door. "Get in, I'll take you back to the hospital."

"No need," Jessica replied bitterly. "We've made our decision. Let's not bother each other anymore. Thanks for helping me today. Even if it's the last time, I'm grateful."

She walked away, each step heavy with sorrow. Dizzy from fever and rain, she kept moving forward, unable to face him. The fear of revealing the depth of her love for him, even though it was a love that had persisted for an eternity.

James, also in a bad mood, didn't want to chase her. But he couldn't ignore his concern for her, so he slowly drove behind her.

When thunder struck, his worry broke through his pride. He stopped the car, hurried to her, and gently placed her in the passenger seat.

Jessica stayed quiet on the drive, lost in thoughts, barely noticing James's concerned glances.

At the hospital, James rushed her inside. The doctor took her temperature—nearly 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

James sternly scolded Olivia.

Jessica weakly said, "Don't blame Olivia. I insisted on running out. She's old and couldn't keep up."

Seeing James so anxious, Jessica almost believed he cared about her. Why else would he help her with the Evans family or get so upset about her being sick?

Then James's phone rang. He glanced at Jessica and walked out to answer it.

Jessica smiled bitterly. No matter what, if Rose called, he'd leave immediately. Divorce was the right choice. At least she wouldn't live in Rose's shadow anymore.

Outside, James answered Willie's call.

"Hello. Are Rose's test results in?" he asked anxiously.

Willie sighed. "Ms. Morris's results have issues. If you can, come to my lab. I'm sorry. She acted so convincingly that I missed her brainwave tests earlier. I came to apologize in person."

James asked, "Acted? Are you sure?"

Willie replied, "Let's discuss in person. Once you see the results, you'll understand."
