Chapter 220 Jessica, Are You Being Kept?
In the evening, Jessica invited Kylie to dinner nearby, planning to grab some supplies from Kylie's favorite yarn store. Kylie, who grew up in a poor family, had always knitted her own sweaters to save money, so she knew all the best spots.
Jessica took her time choosing. Finally, with Kylie's help, she picked some dark gray wool.
As they left the store with their bags, Kylie asked, "When do you plan to finish knitting this?"
"The sooner, the better," Jessica replied, determined. After a moment, she suggested, "Tomorrow's the weekend. Why don't you come over and teach me? How about it?"
Kylie's eyes widened. "No way! Mr. Kelly scares the hell out of me."
"I'll be with you the whole time," Jessica assured her, giving her hand a playful shake. "Besides, he's rarely home; he's almost always at the office. Please, Kylie!"
Faced with Jessica's pleading eyes, Kylie couldn't refuse. She sighed. "Fine. You always get your way, don't you?"
To James's surprise, Jessica asked Kylie to take the yarn home and bring it over the next day.
Jessica drove Kylie back to her dorm. After Kylie got out and waved goodbye, Jessica was about to leave when a voice called out, "Jessica!"
She looked blankly at the approaching boy. After a moment, she remembered. "Leo?"
"Jessica, I saw everything!" Leo's face was red with anger. "A luxury car picks you up every day. Is that why you rejected me? Because I don't have a fancy car or money?"
Jessica stared at him, incredulous. "Do I even know you well? We've met once, and you expect me to be your girlfriend? Even if you were rich, I wouldn't be with you for that reason." Her tone was flat, trying to stay calm.
Resentment flashed in Leo's eyes. "I misjudged you! I didn't expect you to be so materialistic."
"What's your relationship with the owner of that luxury car?" he sneered. "Are you being kept?"
Then he gestured towards the car Jessica pulled up in and exclaimed, "Did he buy you that car? Just because I can't afford these things, you didn't even consider me?"
Jessica's voice turned icy. "Stop being unreasonable. You're just showing how narrow-minded and graceless you are."
Leo snorted. "Does that old man have grace?" He scoffed. "Looking at his car, he probably couldn't afford it without working for decades."
A cold, deep voice cut through the tension. "What car I buy is none of your business." James had walked calmly to Jessica's side, his gaze fixed on Leo.
Leo froze, realizing who stood before him. "Isn't this Jessica's brother?" he muttered.
Without a word, James pulled Jessica into his arms protectively. "Kid," he said, his voice low and menacing, "it seems that last basketball game didn't teach you a lesson, did it?"
