Chapter 226 Pregnancy (2)
Rose cautiously asked, "You coming over now?"
"Yeah," James replied heavily and hung up.
He got up and headed to the bedroom. Jessica had just finished her shower, looking as fresh and lovely as a water lily. She seemed eager to please him, wearing a small camisole and with eyes clear as water.
As James approached, she reached out to wrap her arms around his neck.
"Jessica," he said, pulling her hand away, "there's an urgent matter at the office. I need to go out."
Jessica glanced at the dark sky outside and grumbled, "It's so late. Do you really have to go now? Can't it wait until tomorrow?"
James hid his guilt and replied, "I have to go now. You should go to bed first, don't wait up for me, okay?"
"Alright then," Jessica teased, "I was planning to make a baby with you tonight, but since you're so unromantic, forget it!"
James chuckled, pinched her nose, and whispered, "If you're still awake when I get back, we'll make one." His tone was suggestive.
He grabbed his coat and hurried out.
Jessica couldn't sleep either, so she took out the half-knitted scarf from the cabinet and continued knitting.
James rushed to Rose's house as quickly as possible.
When he entered, Rose was sitting on the sofa, her eyes red and looking pitiful.
James's heart trembled. He walked over and asked, "What did the doctor say?"
Rose handed him the medical records and test results. "It's already ten weeks. The doctor even scolded me for being an irresponsible mother. I didn't even know the baby had been in my belly for so long."
James quietly examined the medical records. 'Ten weeks,' he thought.
It matched the timeline of their first night together. He was silent for a long time before finally speaking. "But after you got pregnant, you were hospitalized and took antidepressants. Won't that affect the baby?"
"I didn't take the antidepressants," Rose said softly. "I replaced them with vitamin pills and asked the doctor if the medication I took while hospitalized would affect the baby's development. They said it wouldn't."
With tears in her eyes, she looked at him earnestly. "James, you wouldn't abandon our baby, would you?"
"Give me some time. I need to think about it," James said with a poker face. "I'll leave now. In a couple of days, I'll take you to the hospital for a thorough check-up."
He couldn't forget how Rose had faked her depression last time. This time, he needed to be sure he wasn't being deceived again.
Rose pleaded, "Can't you stay with me and the baby tonight?"
"No. Jessica is still waiting for me at home," he refused almost without hesitation.
Rose could see that James hadn't forgiven her yet, so she didn't press him to stay. But she believed the situation could change with the baby. As long as their child existed, she and James would always share an unbreakable bond.
Jessica and James had only been together for a couple of months. But she and James had five years of history.
Leaving Rose's place, James felt a storm of emotions swirling inside him. He couldn't just go straight home, so he drove aimlessly for a long time, trying to clear his head.
He finally returned in the wee hours of the morning.
