At that time, Jessica was still with Nathan in the operating room, but she was worried about Gerald, so she asked Nathan to leave and hurried back.
"Grandpa." Jessica rushed into the ward with a face full of anxiety.

Jessica was shocked and looked at James, seemingly blaming him for not discussing it with her before telling Gerald the truth.

So, she took all the responsibility upon herself and said, "Grandpa, I was the one who first brought up the divorce. I felt that James and I were not suitable for each other. If you want to blame someone, blame me. I shouldn't have lied to you; I let you down."
Hearing this, Gerald pointed at James and said, "Did you hear that? Even at this point, Jessica is still covering for you and speaking up for you. And what about you? What did you just say? You blamed Jessica and put all the responsibility on her."
James was utterly humiliated by Gerald's scolding.
Jessica also felt a bit hurt. She had thought that James would defend her in front of Gerald, just as she had defended him.

After saying this, he glared at James and said, "Get out of here. I want to talk to Jessica alone!"
James sighed, looked at Jessica with concern, and had no choice but to leave the ward.
After he left, Gerald asked, "Did you know long ago that the woman was pregnant with James's child? Is that why you divorced James? Jessica, my dear, I don't blame you. Anyone would find it hard to accept such a thing. But you should have told me earlier; I would have stood up for you!"
If he had known earlier, he would never have allowed that woman to keep the Kelly family's child.
