Chapter 88 Letting James Give Up Jessica to Him
Kevin quickly realized he couldn't take on James alone. He bolted out, covering his face and yelling, "I'll remember this! Just wait and see!"
James didn't bother chasing him. He felt it was beneath him. He only stepped in because he saw the slap mark on Jessica's face, which made him furious.
Once Kevin was gone, Louisa and Joan's bravado disappeared. They knew they were in deep trouble.
Louisa hesitated before saying, "Mr. Kelly, this is all a misunderstanding. There might be some confusion between us and Jessica too. Please sit down. Let's have some tea. Family should stick together, right?"
James looked at them and said, "I only consider my wife as my family. As for today's matter, if she wants to let this go, fine. But if she wants to pursue it, you better be ready for the consequences."
Pearl, who had been quiet, suddenly spoke up angrily, "Mr. Kelly, do you really think Jessica is loyal to you? I saw her with another man."
James' eyes narrowed dangerously, not just at Pearl but also at Jessica.
Jessica couldn't take it anymore and snapped, "Did you get your skill for twisting the truth from your mom?"
Pearl shot back, "Am I lying? I saw you get into Jack's car at Ocean City University. Does your husband know how close you are to Jack?"
Joan quickly added, "Mr. Kelly, we didn't want to say anything for your and Jessica's sake. But now, if we don't tell you the truth, you'll think we bullied her. Jack is Pearl's boyfriend. How does Jessica justify stealing him?"
Jessica was shocked. She had no idea Pearl was dating Jack. She feared James would believe them. He always seemed to think the worst of her.
But this time, James snapped, "If you're going to make accusations, you better have proof. If I hear any more rumors about my wife, I'll hire a lawyer and sue you all."
He then took Jessica's hand and left, ignoring Louisa and Joan's embarrassed looks.
Outside, James let go of Jessica's hand and walked ahead, clearly angry.
Jessica sensed his anger and quickly caught up, explaining, "James, don't misunderstand. Jack and I are just friends. He only picked me up a few times at Mr. Kelly's request."
James stopped, his cold eyes staring at her, and said, "I'll find out the truth. You better be innocent. Otherwise, there will be consequences."
Jessica looked down, disappointed, and murmured, "I thought you believed me."
James's tone softened a bit, "Does it matter that much if I believe you?"
Tears welled up in Jessica's eyes, she choke out, "Of course, it matters. I hate being wronged, especially by you."
Thinking about what happened, she added sadly, "But thanks for helping me today."
She walked ahead alone, looking lonely, not intending to get into his car. James felt a pang in his heart and followed her.
Jessica suddenly turned and shouted, "Stop following me. Don't give me hope just to crush it. At the Evans family, you were acting. Now that it's over, you're still the James who only loves Rose."
