Chapter 344 Wrongly Accused (2)

Jessica gave a shy smile and said, "Professor Howard, you're flattering me, but I know I lack the weight of experience."

Nathan chuckled, "Yeah, you lack weight. It looks like you wouldn't weigh much more than a feather, would you?"

Jessica was amused. She didn't expect Nathan, usually so serious, to crack a joke.

When they got back to the department, they heard a commotion at the entrance.

Jessica exchanged a glance with Nathan and quickly walked inside.

To their surprise, a crowd had gathered around the nurse's station, with a few people arguing in the middle.

Seeing this, Nathan said to Jessica, "You head back to the office. I'll check it out."

He hurried over and squeezed into the center of the crowd.

He saw Cynthia being grabbed by a patient's family member, looking a real mess.

Nathan was startled and immediately said, "What's going on? Everyone, calm down. If there's an issue, talk to me."

One of the family members looked at him suspiciously and said, "Are you in charge? Can you make decisions?"

"Yes, I'm in charge here. I can make decisions," Nathan said. "Let go of our doctor first. We can discuss any issues calmly. There's nothing that can't be resolved through communication."

The family member pushed Cynthia away and threw a death certificate at him, saying, "Take a good look at this! Two days ago, this Dr. Wells said my father could be discharged. But after being discharged, he suddenly had a heart attack. Yesterday, we admitted him to another hospital, but they couldn't save him. They said the heart attack symptoms had been there for a while, but you guys didn't catch it. How could you discharge him in such a condition?"

Another family member immediately chimed in, "Exactly! If you don't give us an explanation, we'll sue your hospital for negligence!"

Nathan roughly understood the situation and looked sternly at Cynthia, asking, "What's going on?"

"I don't know either," Cynthia said, her voice trembling. "I re-examined the patient the day before discharge, and all the indicators were normal. He was fit to be discharged!"

Nathan's voice was sharp as he questioned, "You're his attending physician, and you're telling me you don't know?"

Cynthia was on the verge of tears and said, "Professor Howard, it's really not my fault. The heart attack might have happened after discharge. How can they say it was our hospital's fault for delaying treatment? This is definitely slander from another hospital!"

The family member shouted, "You're lying! The night before discharge, my father complained of chest pain three times. But only an intern came to see us. What does an intern know?"

Cynthia's head was ringing with the impact of the words, like an explosion in her mind. She suddenly remembered that on the night shift, Jessica had indeed knocked on her door several times, telling her that the patient in that bed was complaining of chest pain and asking how to handle it.

She had scolded Jessica, saying she would check on it later. But she had been sleeping soundly at the time, and since the patient's test results were fine, she went back to sleep and forgot to check.

The next morning, she completely forgot about it and discharged the patient.

Now, cold sweat was breaking out on Cynthia's back. She thought, 'I'm screwed. If this is confirmed, it will be a major medical malpractice case. Forget about promotion; even my medical license can be revoked.'
