Chapter 543 Refusing Rose (1)
Even though that thorn in her heart had taken root, Jessica forced herself to ignore it.
She mustered a small smile and said to him, "James, it's really good to have you here."
"Is it?"
James kissed her forehead gently and said softly, "I'm sorry, I forgot today was your dad's memorial day. Let's visit his grave tomorrow, okay? As for the wedding, let's hold off until you're feeling better, alright?"
Jessica looked at him, touched. After all, he always considered her feelings and took care of her.
Seeing the tears welling up in her eyes, James smiled warmly and said, "Hey, don't overthink things. If something's bothering you, just tell me. We'll handle it together."
Jessica, feeling a bit embarrassed, said, "I'm sorry. We were supposed to get our marriage license today, but we missed it again."
James wrapped her in his arms, a hint of playfulness in his voice, "You're right here with me. Do you think I'd let you get away?"
With his comforting words, Jessica gradually buried her troubled thoughts deep inside, refusing to dwell on them any longer.
But once Jessica fell asleep, James quietly left and headed to the Evans family home.
Now that John was gone, Louisa felt fearless, completely unafraid.
She raised her head and sneered, "What is it? Coming over so late, Mr. Kelly, are you here to ask about Jessica's background? I won't tell you! I'll take this secret to my grave, and you won't find out a thing!"
Louisa now saw Jessica and James as the nemeses of the Evans family, convinced that they were somehow responsible for John's death.
So, she wanted to make them suffer, to make them endure endless torment!
But to her surprise, James merely smirked and said, "I don't care about Jessica's background, and I don't need to. Whether what you say is true or not, an old story isn't worth the trouble."
Louisa's expression changed, and she gritted her teeth, "You don't care, but does Jessica? If you don't care and she doesn't care, why are you here in the middle of the night?"
James's gaze turned sharp as he stepped closer to the now fearful Louisa.
Louisa, feeling a bit scared, quickly said, "What do you want to do to me? Let me tell you, this is the Evans family home. Pearl and Joan are upstairs. If you dare to act recklessly, you'll regret it!"
James scoffed and said coldly, "I just want to tell you to stop messing with Jessica. If I find out you've done anything again, Pearl and Joan might end up back in that place where anyone can have them."
Louisa's face turned pale, and she demanded, "What do you mean by 'a place where anyone can have them'? Explain yourself! What happened to Pearl and Joan?"
James's smile grew more mocking as he said, "So, there are things you want to know too, huh? Take a look at this."
With that, James pulled out a stack of photos and tossed them in front of Louisa.
The photos showed Pearl and Joan at the Skyline Club, engaging with clients in explicit and compromising positions.
Louisa's face flushed red as she quickly tore up the photos.
If these photos got out, it wouldn't just ruin Pearl and Joan; it would destroy her reputation too. She wouldn't be able to show her face in public ever again.
