Chapter 123 There Will Be Times You Can't Protect Me
Jack looked pale and couldn't meet Jessica's eyes.
Jessica was surprised Pearl had settled into the Kelly family so quickly.
She disliked Pearl and asked coldly, "Where's Mr. Gerald Kelly?"
Pearl smirked and said, "Mr. Gerald Kelly is in the study with Mr. George Kelly and Mrs. Kelly. They're probably discussing our wedding. I'm already carrying Jack's child, so we can't delay, right?"
Jack's face turned red with anger, but he stayed silent. With Jessica there, he felt even worse and wished he could shut Pearl up.
James stayed calm and said to Pearl, "You're pregnant; have a seat."
"Thank you, James," Pearl replied sweetly, thinking James had accepted her.
Jack, realizing James was mocking him, snapped, "I'm going out for some air!"
With that, he stormed out.
"Jack, where are you going?" Pearl chased after him, not wanting to leave his side.
With them gone, only Jessica and James were left in the living room.
James went straight to the sofa, sat down, poured some tea for himself, and glanced at Jessica. "What? Seeing your sister with Jack bothers you?"
"If that's what you're thinking, I have nothing to say," Jessica replied, her mood darkening as she sat down on another sofa to avoid him.
After all, why should she put up with his sarcasm when she had nothing to do with Jack?
James, reluctant to antagonize her, controlled his temper and sat down next to her, lowered his tone. "I was just joking."
Jessica looked at him seriously. "Is that kind of joke funny? I don't like being accused of things I haven't done."
James studied her face, gently touching her cheek. "Then why have you been upset since you got here? Isn't it because of Jack?"
Jessica sighed. "I was just thinking about how to get along with Pearl after she marries into the Kelly family. We hate each other. Will the Kelly family be in constant turmoil?"
He pinched her nose affectionately and said. "Two women won't break the Kelly family. Besides, with me protecting you, what are you afraid of?"
Jessica gave him a meaningful look. "There will be times you can't protect me. Isn't your energy spent on protecting that woman outside?"
James sensed the sarcasm and took a sip of tea to hide his embarrassment.
After a while, Jack returned with Pearl.
It was almost lunchtime, so Jack didn't go far.
Just then, George and Linda descended as well., looking sorrowful. The sad expression on their faces was as if there had been something bad in the family.
Jack hurried to them. "Dad, Mom, how did it go?"
He wondered, 'Does Grandpa really want me to marry Pearl? Her family background doesn't help my career, she's sharp-tongued, and I already have someone I like. I can't stand Pearl anymore.'
