Chapter 426 She Won't Take This Responsibility (4)

James concealed his shock and relief deep within his eyes.

The corners of his lips curved slightly as he reached out to hold Jessica's cool hand and said, "Dad, did you hear what Jessica just said? So, you don't need to worry. I never leave a way out for my opponents."

George held his breath, snorted coldly, and said, "Let's go!" as he left with Linda and Jack.

Jack listened to Jessica repeatedly defending James, and his heart felt like it was being tightly squeezed, making it painful to even breathe.

He took a deep look at Jessica and then followed his parents into Gerald's hospital room.

Jessica finally breathed a sigh of relief after they all left.

Immediately, she felt James's intense gaze locked onto her.

Startled, Jessica quickly lowered her head and whispered, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Why did you suddenly speak up for me just now?"

James's eyes were fixed on her, afraid to miss any subtle expression.

His voice was hoarse as he asked, "Are you trying to please me in this way, hoping I'll change my mind about acquiring The Evans Corporation?"

Jessica instantly felt her good intentions were wasted and said angrily, "If it weren't for grandpa's instructions, I wouldn't have wanted to help you! But I guess I was meddling; you never needed my pity anyway."

As soon as she finished speaking, James's lips curved into a smile, and he said, "So, you do pity me?"

"I do not."

Jessica hurriedly said and immediately walked away.

James took long strides and followed closely behind.

In the elevator, James held her hand and said in a low voice, "I'm sorry for misunderstanding you about that matter before. I should have known it was Linda who told grandpa."

Jessica finally realized, but she didn't want him to see her grievance, so she said indifferently, "It doesn't matter. It's not the first time you've wronged me anyway."

Feeling a strong sense of guilt and regret, he gently stroked her face and said, "I'm sorry for making you suffer."

His words made Jessica feel even worse, and her eyes became moist.

Suddenly, she had a lot to say to him, wanting to tell him all her grievances.

Thinking this, she did just that.

"James, whether you believe it or not, I still have to say it. I didn't make grandpa abort Rose's child. I was just as unaware as you were beforehand, and I won't take responsibility for it."

James hesitated for a moment but then nodded and said, "I believe you."

Jessica didn't know if he truly believed her or was just being perfunctory.

She actually cared a lot about his trust.

After exiting the elevator, they got into the car.

Jessica smiled bitterly and said softly, "Just now, in the hospital room, grandpa said a lot to me. He said he was entrusting you to me, asking me to take good care of you for him."

As she spoke, her voice trembled more and more, and she let out a helpless sob from her throat, "But James, how am I supposed to take care of you? What can I do? It's laughable; you're my benefactor now, right? It's ridiculous that I even feel sorry for my benefactor."
