Chapter 526 Returning Your Child to You (4)
Jessica's body stiffened, and she suddenly looked at him, asking, "What do you mean by that?"
James then realized what he had said.
He quickly tried to make amends, "I mean, your dad loves you. No matter where he is, he wants you to live well."
Jessica was still immersed in her sadness and didn't think deeply about his words.
James, afraid she might overthink, decided to turn off the light, tuck her in, and said, "If you want to sleep, just sleep. I'll stay here with you."
Recently, James had been staying by her side without leaving.
He knew she didn't like him being too close, so he slept on the couch in the bedroom.
And now, it was still the same.
Jessica had to admit that having him by her side made her feel much more at ease and less afraid of the night.
That night, she had a wonderful dream, dreaming of her family.
Each of them smiled lovingly and gave her worried reminders.
This dream was the most beautiful dream she had ever had in her life.
The people she loved seemed to appear right in front of her.
But when she reached out her hand, she couldn't feel their warmth.
At that moment, she woke up from her dream.
The morning light had already touched the window curtains; it was dawn.
James heard the noise and immediately opened his eyes.
To his surprise, Jessica was already up, had even opened the curtains, and was standing by the window.
He was startled and ran to her, pulling her back.
"What are you doing?"
He looked at her nervously.
Jessica was stunned for a moment before she realized.
He probably thought she was having dark thoughts and was afraid she might harm herself.
Jessica was still reminiscing about last night's dream.
She needed to be obedient and not disappoint her elders.
Her mother's wish was still unfulfilled.
She had a little life inside her that was about to be born.
She had no right to be despondent; she had to pull herself together.
Jessica's eyes gradually lost their previous numbness and became clear again.
She explained, "I want to go back to work at the hospital today."
James looked at her in confusion and asked, "Are you okay?"
After all, she was still in that state last night, and he was genuinely afraid she was depressed and might do something rash.
Jessica forced a smile and said, "Birth, aging, sickness, and death, as well as farewells, are things everyone has to go through. People still need to look forward. I'll adjust myself as soon as possible."
James let out a heavy sigh of relief and hugged her tightly, as if holding a lost treasure.
He said with relief, "I'm glad you've come to terms with it. I was planning to get you a therapist. I was really scared, scared you'd leave me, scared I couldn't keep you."
Jessica didn't react much to his confession and just said lightly, "I'm hungry. These past few days, I've neglected the baby inside me."
