Chapter 150 Avenging Jessica (2)
Jessica felt down. She gave a cold smile and said, "If I said no, would you believe me? If you did, you wouldn't be here."
John had his doubts. He said, a bit reproachful, "Even if you were wronged, I'd still stand for you. But how could you let James go this far? Your grandma's old. Even if she gets out, she'll be criticized. She's my mother!"
Jessica, replied, "And what about me? Am I not your daughter? Pearl's baby is gone, and it wasn't my fault. But when grandma locked me up, trying to starve me, where were you? Did she ever treat me like her granddaughter?"
John's tone got harsher. "Jessica, this is a family matter. It shouldn't be public. Be obedient and have James release your grandma. I can't stand seeing her suffer in prison."
Jessica looked at John, disappointed, and said clearly, "Dad, I can't do anything about it. And I don't want to."
John got anxious. He'd been away for two days, and the Evans family was in chaos, with Louisa in jail and Pearl having a miscarriage.
He said, "If you still treat me as your father, listen to me and release your grandma. I'll persuade them not to pursue Pearl's matter."
A cold voice came from the doorway. "Even if Pearl doesn't pursue it, I won't let my wife suffer injustice!"
James had returned and had been listening for a while.
John was feeling a bit of awe toward James.
But desperate to save Louisa, he forced himself to maintain his authority and said, "James, aren't you meddling too much in the Evans family's affairs? You and Jessica have been married for so long, and you never cared about her. Now, you've thrown the Evans family into chaos. What do you want?"
James's face turned unpleasant.
He walked over to Jessica and said sternly, "I don't want to meddle in the Evans family's affairs. But my wife has been wronged, and I must stand up for her! This isn't just the Evans family's matter; it's my wife's matter too!"
"So, James, are you determined not to release Louisa?" John snapped, eyes red with anger. He hadn't expected James to give him no respect, leaving him humiliated.
What disappointed him more was that Jessica didn't say a word for the Evans family.
James said coldly, "How about Louisa bow and apologize to my wife? If my wife is satisfied, we'll forgive her."
John's blood pressure soared with anger. He pointed at James, "You! How dare you? She's Jessica's grandma, an elderly woman. How could she do such a thing?"
James nodded, his gaze cold. "Then we'll proceed legally. You can leave now; you're not welcome here."
John turned to Jessica, "What do you say? Can you bear to see your grandma suffer in prison?"
