Chapter 276 What If I Want You?
Rose was losing it, yanking at the IV and yelling she didn't wanna live anymore.
"Rose, calm down, be strong," James said, rushing over to hold her back and shooing the doctors and nurses out.
Rose was breathing hard, full of anger and despair. "Did you hear them, James?" she cried. "They said I can't dance anymore! Do you even get what that means to me?"
"I know, Rose, I know," James said, his voice heavy with sympathy. "But the baby's okay. That's something, right? A silver lining?"
Rose broke down. "I always thought my legs could heal. If I hadn't overheard those nurses, I wouldn't have known they're beyond repair! I feel so bad for this kid, having a mom who's disabled!"
"Don't talk like that." James tried to comfort her. "You brought this child into the world. That's priceless. Look, I'll find the best specialists. We'll do everything we can. Your legs will be okay."
Rose shook her head. "Stop trying to make me feel better! I know I probably won't get better. But I won't let the person who did this to me get away with it, never!" she shouted.
Her fierce look made James hesitate. He knew he should argue, but he couldn't find the words.
Rose asked, "You don't still want me to let Jessica's dad off the hook, do you?"
He paused, then said, "If we can settle this quietly, I'll make sure the Evans Family compensates you well."
"Compensate?" Rose's eyes burned with anger. "Can they give me back my legs? If our baby is hurt, can they give me another child? James, don't forget, John hit me with his car on purpose. He wanted to kill me!"
James sighed, "We're gonna be parents too. He was just confused, seeing his daughter suffer."
"So you're saying Jessica's suffering is my fault? What about me, James? Am I not suffering?" Rose cried. "I was carrying your child, yet you sent me abroad. I went to apologize to Jessica, but she humiliated me. In the end, her dad tried to kill me! James, even if you love Jessica and can't stand to see her upset, what about me? What did I do wrong? Is loving you so terrible?"
Her pain left James speechless, unable to defend John anymore.
If she knew he had secretly put Michael on John's case, she'd be furious. He shuddered at the thought of her reaction.
Rose's mind was racing, and suddenly, she demanded, "Does your wife know? Did she and her dad plan this together?"
"No way," James shot back, his voice firm. "Jessica knows nothing. This has nothing to do with her, and I don't want her dragged into this."
His strong defense of Jessica sparked jealousy in Rose, but she hid it, playing her cards right. "You should go too, James. I need to be alone, to figure out how I'm gonna live."
James worried leaving might make her pull out the needle again or cause another scene. "You don't need to worry about your future," he promised. "I'll take care of you and the baby. Whatever you need, just tell me."
"What if I want you?" Tears filled Rose's eyes. "James, I have nothing left. My legs are ruined. If you won't have me and stay with the daughter of the man who did this to me, what's the point of living?"
