Chapter 162 Even You Can Tell That I Like Him (1)

Jack stood at the courtyard gate.

"Jessica, over here!" He smiled and waved.

Jessica hurried over, confused. "Why are you here so late? What's up?"

She was about to open the gate but realized Olivia had the key.

Jack shook his head. "No need. I just have something for you."

Jessica looked puzzled.

Jack pulled out a fancy champagne-colored gift box from his car. "Happy birthday, Jessica!"

Jessica was stunned. "How did you know it was my birthday?"

Jack, who dared not claim that he had long since investigated her background, quickly lied. "Pearl mentioned it. I know her miscarriage wasn't your fault. This is my way of apologizing for all the trouble."

He looked at her with deep, gentle eyes. Jessica felt a flicker of something but quickly remembered the misunderstandings with James and Pearl. She had to be careful.

She returned the gift. "I appreciate it, but I can't accept this. It's too valuable for me to repay you."

"It's not valuable," Jack lied. "A client gave it to me. I thought it would suit you. How expensive can a client's gift be?"

Jessica hesitated, then nodded. "Thank you, I'll accept it."

Jack's face lit up. "I hope you like it. I think it'll look great on you."

"Thank you, Jack," Jessica said, her voice a mix of gratitude and sadness. It wasn't the birthday she'd hoped for, but the warmth from Lily, Olivia, and now Jack made her feel cherished.

She felt that, besides her late mother, there were still people who cared about her.

Her eyes grew moist, and she looked down, blinking rapidly to hold back tears.

"Jessica, what's wrong?" Jack's concern was evident.

His expression darkened. "Where's James? He's not home, is he? It's your birthday, and he's not with you?"

Jessica's silence was an acknowledgment.

Jack got angry. "He doesn't treat you like his wife. Why are you still waiting for him? You're young; you should have divorced him and found your own happiness! Do you really like him that much?"

Jessica bitterly muttered, "Even you can see that I like him."

But James, he can't see anything, he knows nothing!

Jack gritted his teeth. "He's too much. It's your birthday, and he's not even home. Is he with another woman?"

"I don't know." Jessica didn't want to discuss it. She smiled at Jack and quietly said, "Thanks for the gift. Drive safely."
