Chapter 379 Celebrating His Birthday (1)
Jessica replied, "Well, I encountered some trouble at work, but I resolved it, so I'm happy."
Jessica felt a sweet warmth in her heart as she placed the plum blossoms she had picked into a vase.
She thought, 'If only Gerald were like the plum blossoms. Then he can endure the harsh winter with strength. By spring, everything will be full of life, and all the hardships will be over.'
Not long after, James also came back from work.
Gerald didn't want to disturb them, so he said, "What time is it? You two should go eat. Go out and have whatever you want. Don't just stay here with me. Go on!"
Jessica had something she wanted to say to James today. So, she left the hospital room with James.
As soon as they stepped out, James asked, "So, how was it? Was work a pleasant surprise today?"
Jessica nodded shyly, her clear eyes looking at him, and said, "Thank you."
But James wasn't very happy. He sighed slightly and said, "Do you have to be so distant with me? Always saying thank you. I don't like it."
Jessica lowered her head, twisting her fingers, and said softly, "Besides thank you, I don't know how else to express my gratitude."
James gazed deeply at her and said, "Then from now on, don't reject me."
Jessica looked at him in surprise, just about to say something when James interrupted her, "Just think of it as me pursuing you again. Even if we're divorced, I still have the right to pursue you, right? Jessica, can you be fair? At least, give me another chance."
Jessica looked at him puzzledly, and said, "I really don't understand. You've done so much for me quietly. Is it worth it? What if we still don't work out?"
James smiled indulgently and said, "Silly, if you don't believe from the start, how can you make an effort? At least, I believe."
Thinking of what Cynthia said today, Jessica's heart softened more and more.
Her eyes turned slightly red, and she looked away, saying, "Don't be so good to me. I can't bear it. You should be good to her, not me!"
"Who says I shouldn't be good to you?" James cupped her face with both hands, making her look into his eyes, and said, "Remember, you are the only one who deserves it."
At that moment, his eyes were so bright and deep, like a black hole with a magnet, pulling her in tightly.
Suddenly, Jessica stood on her tiptoes and wrapped her arms around his neck.
It wasn't until her jelly-like soft lips pressed against his that James snapped back to reality.
He hadn't expected Jessica to be so forward.
The next second, he wrapped one arm around her waist and placed the other hand on the back of her head, pulling her closer.
They kissed passionately, as if, in that moment, the world only consisted of the two of them.
Later, James tasted the salty bitterness of her tears.
James's tone was a bit bewildered, "What's wrong? Why are you crying? Did I hurt you again?"
Jessica knew she had just been suppressing her emotions for too long, so in such a moment, feeling his warm embrace, she couldn't help but cry.
Choking up, she said, "I didn't expect you to understand me so well, to do so much for me. I thought I was dispensable to you."
"Silly." James gently scolded with a smile, holding her in his arms.
Jessica's whole heart was trembling and she felt like she was lost again. She knew well this was a maze, and that once she entered, it would be hard to find her way out. But she still stepped in without hesitation.
